Paul F Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 How can you tell if wings are genuine Ford? I am fitting (although technically they're not fitting very well) Hadrian wings to my mk2, but I have acquired another wing that seems of a far better quality - the metal seems a lot thicker and the joins in the metal seem to be a lot neater / better. Are there any tell-tale signs of a genuine item? Thanks!
morcheen Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 i remember when ford used to buy in pattern mk1 mex wings and put their stickers on them, then sold as gen ford i heard that's what someones doing at the moment
Jubfab Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 I've just fitted 2 new wings to my mates mk2. We bought them from Hadrian. The O/S fitted really well but the N/S fitted like a glove on a foot !! Both badged as Hadrian - suspect made by differant manufacturers as the pressings where slightly differant from side to side. I ended up having to drill out the spot welds on the n/s wing where the closing panel meets the 'A' post - fit the wing on temp and then get it lined up and reweld the wing to the support !!! Back to your question - I know on later Fords the 'ford' symbol was stamped on the wing edge, Don't think it's applicable to the Mk2 though. You can generally tell by the way the wings finished. We spent an hour just tyding the edges up with a file and generally sorting the poor weld out. I never had to do that with a genuine wing....
