how do i know if i have large or small hole strut tops? its a 1980 car so which do i need?

Strut braces do work, they will keep the struts where they need to be and stop the inner wings from flexing, it would make a noticable difference to the front end grip

99% of rally cars have strut braces....and the lads i know do not waste money on shit that doesnt do anything

 

plus the alloy braces look great.

It doesn't matter if you've got a big engine or a hairdryer, when your in a corner all the sideways forces being applied to the suspension will push the top of strut inwards - a strut brace stops this.

Obviously opinions differ and we're all entitled to different ones, but I'm standing by mine. And that is that to the average mortal a strut brace will make little or no difference other than in the car park with the bonnet open. Rally cars have been mentioned and yes probably to someone with the driving skills of Colin McCrae that can make use of the full capabilities of the car a strut brace might make a difference over a stage but to me at my level of driving skill? I can't see it nor have I ever felt any difference in cars that are so equipped.

 

Think about it, If your inner wings flexed that much you'd see a number of signs of it, the first and least serious would be paint cracking, the most serious would be eventual metal fatigue failure.

there is flex enough to alter suspension geometry mate. Jack the front of your car up on the crossmember with your doors open and then try and shut them. Then tell me these old cars don't flex
