Smudger105e Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 A motorist has pleaded guilty to driving at 172mph on a rural A-road, making him the fastest speeder ever caught in Britain. (Advertisement) Tim Brady, 33, was caught in a random speed check on the A420 near Abingdon, Oxfordshire, driving a £98,000 3.6-litre Porsche 911 Turbo in January this year. The current highest speed to result in a conviction is 156mph. In a short appearance at Oxford Crown Court, Brady pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving. His plea of not guilty to one count of aggravated vehicle-taking was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service and he will be sentenced next month. Brady, of Harrow, north-west London, resigned from his job at car lease firm Helphire at its Abingdon branch days after police stopped him in the car. A spokeswoman for road safety charity Brake branded his actions "selfish". "The idea of someone driving at that speed is horrific. The chances that a person will be able to control a vehicle at that speed if something unexpected happens is slim. "It is extremely selfish. Nobody has the right to put other people's lives at risk like that." In 2003, car dealer Jason McAllister was caught doing 156mph in his 3.2-litre BMW M3 in Scotland. He was jailed for five months.
Pipster007 Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 He goes to jail and a paedophile with 13 counts of abuse against him goes free. Tell me, where's the justice in this country. Sounds like you'll get away with anything here, as long as you're not a motorist
Burns Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 will he go to jail with one count of dangerous driving? daggle?
Admin Vista Posted August 25, 2007 Admin Report Posted August 25, 2007 Hmmm tough one because on one hand I agree whole heartedly with this statement "It is extremely selfish. Nobody has the right to put other people's lives at risk like that." After all think about it, if you turn out onto an A road and someone is approaching at over 170mph there's a damn good chance you won't have seen him coming, or even if you have there's no way you could realise he was approaching at that speed. The net result being that you and your family are dead because some idiot thought it fun to test a fast car to the limit on a public highway On the other hand I also agree with the point that serious criminals are being let off lightly while the motorist is continually crucified in an attempt to raise revenue. So I say, yes it's a serious crime and he deserves jail time, but I also want an end to soft sentencing for serious criminals.
baz105e Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Well that puts a shitter on the myth that gatso's wont register over 170 mph !!! but them speeds shound be kept on the track/airfield
