geoffersmasher Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 well when i got my cortina this was stuck in the boot, i have no need for it so anyone on here is welcome to it, it weights some so you will have to pick it up or perhaps ill bring it to a meet this is of course if its worth having pics
over_head_cam Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 The edge of the crownwheel (big cog ) It will have some numbers stamped on it A photo of that will give peeps the diff ratio It looks complete in the pic and the teeth 'look' sharp.
geoffersmasher Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 the ratio is (well the number anyway) is A68-33 105e-4210 i wrote it down just forgot to add it any good to anyone
johnny_h Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Yes please I need a english diff. Any english diff!
geoffersmasher Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 is it any good (dont worry some one can still have it for nowt) what sort of application is the ratio used for and why "english" haha sorry for the questions but i have a thirst for knowledge
johnny_h Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 4.1 for fast acceleration, not so good for top speed. English axle as opposed to Atlas axle.
geoffersmasher Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 desirabe ey hmm it goes to the highest beer bidder , haha would i be better off fitting it in my motor? tho im guessing its probably the same as the guy said he had two 1 in the car and one spare.
over_head_cam Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Most escorts are standard 3.89:1 The 4.125:1 makes for quicker acceleration, and coupled with a 5 speed will still give a pretty decent top end. The 'English' bit describes the type of axle that it comes from. Anglias escorts, cortinas etc
Admin Vista Posted August 27, 2007 Admin Report Posted August 27, 2007 English is the name given to rear axles commonly found on Anglias and Escorts where the diff is loaded from the front. Atlas (and the undesirable Kohln but often confused with Atlas) axles are equipped with rear loading diffs. Just to confuse things further, the diffs themselves may also be referred to by the names Salisbury and Timken (though I forget which way round those two names apply) If it is indeed a 4.1:1 then it's to low a ratio for my needs, but I'm sure it'll be snapped up.
Noodles Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Mines got 4.1 diff with a 5 speed, the estates came with 4.1 top tip, I calculated that you loose 13% top end but get there quicker, dont know how true that is
geoffersmasher Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 ok then well if its up to scratch for someones needs, then someone can have it for 50, is there anyway of checking what i have on mine without opening it up?
johnny_h Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Wow it went from free to 50 quid pretty quick
geoffersmasher Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 haha well i didnt know it was worth anything, may as well make a couple of quid from it and put it to a faster better home
johnny_h Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Good diff that a 4.1 in general or do you know this diff personally?
over_head_cam Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 I met the diff once in a bar in Hong Kong. She told me she was good, and I had no reson to doubt her
