johnny_h Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 What is the best high temp paint for manifolds and exhaust systems? I wanna tart up mine.
flyingbanana Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 any ive used over the years always breaks up and falls off.....thats why im going down the stainless steel route
Noodles Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 It does flake mate but I use holts black paint, dont get the one that comes with a small brush cos that goes all sticky alright it drys when warm but a pain when putting it on
johnny_h Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 Ok, anyone else know of any that don't flake or at least are less prone to flaking?
Fiesta Steve Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 No paints stick if you get the manifold hot enough. System should be ok though.
johnny_h Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 Cheers, it's the sytem I need to do mainly.
mk2 stu Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 give it a fighting chance by sanding the flaky bits and keying the pipe up with red scotch!
johnny_h Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 It's bare metalled ready to go!
mk2 stu Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 suweeeeeeeeet! Still love that avatar! mmmmmmmmmmm

Admin Vista Posted September 4, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 4, 2007 Ok, anyone else know of any that don't flake or at least are less prone to flaking? Cermakromed manifold and stainless system, expensive but there isn't much else out there that'll do the job you're after.
stephens_xpack Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 mmmm....I also luv the avatar....Sorry what was this thread about?

Gonzo Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 I stuck halfrauds high temp brush on paint on my 125 exhaust and after god knows how many miles of thrashing it to death its still on there like I'd done it yesterday. make sure its the brush on stuff cuz the spray on crap is pants.
Ermine Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 I have replied to this a couple of times now, and i have read the links of previous comments. Yes i did use bbq paint on mine. It was in a spray can made by hammerite. It stayed on, and i think mine has got hot enough, as it has been to the pod several times. The biggest problem is you need to make sure that you have removed all the black paint that comes on a new manifold when you purchase it. As that is what makes it not stick, if you just paint straight on top of it. It is easy to remove, just a cloth and lots of thinners. Yes i agree that the chrome ones do look nice but it depends on your budget. Like i say, bbq paint does work, i can vouch for that.
johnny_h Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 BBQ paint it is then, was at B and Q last night and actually picked up a can of BBQ paint but put it back thinking I was being stupid. Wish I grabbed it now. Cheers everyone.
trakevlyn Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Sounds silly but ive used B&Q bbq paint it only comes in black but it stays on better than anything else ive tried and its not to expensive
Ermine Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Just get it back to bare metal, remove all product fom the manufacturer, and you wont go wrong. Just give it a quick key up with some light grade sandpaper or some red scotchbrite. Just remember it is like anything, if you buy a good quality named product, you will get better results. Like i say i used hammerites version
