johnny_h Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 Who's fitted thier own? Why can't I do it? Arghhh! Fitted new rubbers and gone to put the screen back in but it doesn't even look like it came out of the hole let alone go back in!
RETRO_AL Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 You need a thick piece of rope to sit in the rubber then place screen and rubber in and pull the rope out while somebody presses the screen in
bomber1 Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 done my mk2 on my own m8. old rubbers tho. have u got a lump of rop[e not to thick greese it a little run it round the screen with the 2 ends tailing at the bottom in the middle (the ends need to over lap) put the bottom of the screen in the hole then idealy u need two people one on the inside slowly pulling the chord 2nd apply a little pressure just to sit the screen in. if u were closer id give u a hand
johnny_h Posted September 8, 2007 Author Report Posted September 8, 2007 Yep Russ told me to do it with rope. I need a hand I think....hint hint.

Tom Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 I did mine on my own mate with a new rubber, like the others said you need a piece of rope aboout 5-6mm in diameter so its sits snuggly in the rubber. its a pain in the arse but go slow and carefully mate and you'll get there

Smudger105e Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 Burns and Baz105e fitted one to Burns' Fezza, seemed to go OK..
johnny_h Posted September 9, 2007 Author Report Posted September 9, 2007 Well had a go at fitting it today. Even with help managed to tear it in a few places. Then when fitting the weather strip which was twice as wide as the hole it goes into I managed to push the tool all the way through the rubber rendering it frikken useless. I spat out my dummy and ripped it off.
Rick Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 ricks top tip: grease all round the aparture first, start by setting it slightly high in the hole set your string up so you start from top center and working both ways (ie each end of the string starts top center) do up to a corner at a time whilst someone leans on the g;lass from the outside and pat the rubber in tight as you go. squeezy is also a good substitute if you have no grease. they hardly ever go in first time with new rubbers its tricky
bomber1 Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 done mine im an hour in homebase car park on my own with a lump of cord and flat blade screwdriver
Burns Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 when me and baz did mine, the wire we were using (welding wire) pulled itself out one end, so we ended up doing the last 1/3 with a little screwdriver that baz bent into a hook so we could hook it behind the rubber from the inside and pull/lever it through properly
petrolhead01 Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 mate i pm- ed you yesterday and no reply if you want a new rubber and some one to fit it i mite be able to help!!! but you need to reply!!
