Oh no!! Classic case of her not paying attention and what is it with people when they see an old car that they feel the need to pull out in front of it? I'm forever jumping on the brakes because some tw*t decided to jump in front.

Hope you get it sorted soon, without too much aggro.

Thanks  It wasn't that she pulled out - I was merging into queuing traffic, she flashed to let the van in but got "tarmac envy" and wouldn't let the Cortina in - I think she was doing the look straight ahead thing - avoiding eye contact with the driver in the Cortina (who wasn't there!)

I only realised she wasn't letting it in as I glanced in my wing mirror I realised she was moving forwards and hit it. I could see that she hadn't even moved to the right towards the kerb to avoid it. She initially denied seeing it, then when I asked her again she said she saw it in her peripheral vision, then when I asked her if she hadn't seen the car she'd just driven into she said yes but I was letting the van in not the Cortina. I said that was going to be difficult as they're attached!!

I only hope the insurance companies play ball! :ykt:

That sucks about your cortina  hope you manage to sort it,she must of been pretty blind and stupid not to see that the cortina was actually attatched to the van  theres just no courtesy on the roads today!

Trouble is we're all in such a rush, although in this instance I wasn't. Real shame as you say :thumbsup:

do you need the use of a bodyshop?

No thanks mate, I have a friend in the trade and the lad that painted it originally would be my preferred option.

Insurance is fun already!!

My car insurance say's it's down to the van insurance. The van insurance say's it's down to the car insurance, so back to the van insurance who say's they will only cover the 3rd party (if she denies responsibility). This would mean claiming on my car insurance for my car.

This would mean my van and my car insurance policies get a kicking for her driving into my car - I only hope she plays ball. She didn't answer her phone today and she hasn't called back :?

Gutted for you Toby! Hope it's all sorted out soon bud. It's the same with the Corsair, they don't like letting an old motor out or merge, then when you catch up with them or overtake, they get all confused and pissed off that an old motor has made a fool of their modern plastic mobile! As the old saying goes: Never judge a book by it's cover!!

Thanks guy's

Well she did call back eventually. It's her husbands' insurance policy so I don't think that will improve my chances of her confessing, but we'll see. I will be very impressed if she does the right thing.

I'm going to get a quote this week so I am ready for when the insurance gets in touch.

Sorry to hear about the damage Toby

Someone reversed into my 1300 Fiesta while parked back in March. I had to claim off of their insurance as I wasn't fully comp my ins wasn't interested.

To cut a very tedious story short we couldn't agree on the value of the car as they wanted to write it off for a small dent in the wing!!. They said £200 was more than enough, I said £1500 minimum !!

In the end they sent out a classic car valuator type person who valued the car at £1550 and estimated the repair cost at £1100 (yes, for a dented wing!!)

Because the cost of rapair was x% the value of the vehicle that it had to be repaired and not written off, they offered me £1100 minus the vat as they said they would get that back. I got the cheque shortly afterwards.

I never repaired the car, instead spent it on goodies for the XR2

Hope you get the outcome your car deserves

Thanks mate - I have had a similar experience.

It has agreed-value insurance now - you could never replace all the time we all spend on them but hopefully it means that sort of stupid argument shouldn't happen for mine again.

Still not heard anything. Tum tee tum.... :gary:

So a little up-date!

About a month ago my van insurance company has told me that they will give the lady 28 days to make their claim and if they don't hear from her they will close the book.

I said - "what does this mean about fixing my car? "

He says "Oh that's got nothing to do with us you need to claim on you car insurance!"

So three months after reporting the accident to my car insurance and them denying any responsibilty, when I tell them the above, they say I need to fill in a claim form. :? I wish it was this difficult to pay them their premium!!

So three weeks on the car has been inspected by the loss adjuster and he has been on to my chosen repairer to chip them down £320.

Now they say they can't approve the repair until they know how much a wing is.....

Fair enough, but these things are not easy to source. :ykt:

So in brief....

I would be very gratefull for a PM from anyone who knows of an Off Side front wing for a Mk1 Cortina, either an original one or one of the pressed remanufactured ones that the club had done years ago?

I don't want one of the ones that are fabricated, they're just not quite right in my opinion.
