Arfur Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Hey Toby, remember when modifying that old thing was so much easier, and you looked like this? Best of luck for Saturday, dude. Don't forget to smoke them up good and proper for the fine folk of Brighton.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 9, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted September 9, 2009 fpmsl @ Simon ... he's gonna love you for that one Good luck on Saturday Tody ... fingers crossed for that 11
Toby Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Simon - you $%&^***"£!! Everyone was wearing cowboy boots back in those day's! Rick Astley, Rob Lowe in "Young Blood" everyone!! I mearly a victim of fashion! Thanks Jo - an 11 might be a little optimistic - don't you think!!??
Toby Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 I ran the new box and diff in for about 10 miles last night then the little devil on my shoulder got the better of me. All good though - so far nothing has gone ping! I even tried it down the motorway - feels very odd going into 5th! I tried 4 or 5 standing starts. I got a text off a mate to say he thought he's heard 5 gears I am now thinking it might not be much faster but perhaps more consistant. Only the clock will tell - They do feel fast when you haven't driven them for ages. The handling is certainly not up to the speeds now
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 9, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted September 9, 2009 Thanks Jo - an 11 might be a little optimistic - don't you think!!?? You have to have a goal
zetecmk2 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Everyone was wearing cowboy boots back in those day's! erm....no!! some of us were just normal, in 14 hole dm's studded leather jackets and green mohicans!!
Toby Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Everyone was wearing cowboy boots back in those day's! erm....no!! some of us were just normal, in 14 hole dm's studded leather jackets and green mohicans!! Lol - some things never change!! Except I now wear comfy plimy's! Thanks Jo - an 11 might be a little optimistic - don't you think!!?? You have to have a goal I do - a 12.99999999999999999999999 at Brighton
Toby Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Brighton was a little disappointing initially - but after considering all the numbers it wasn't a complete disaster. I ran 13.40 then 13.40!! A ground hog run! My 64 ft times were marginally slower (0.1) as was my overall time (0.05) so I think the car is exactly the same as it was. I had to re-make my box anyway as my 4 speed had "given up" and now the car is finishing the 1/4 with the revs still in this orbit! We were all racing on the same track so it didn't affect the competition but the start line was like a sand pit!! See the cement in the photo. To go any faster now I will have to look for more grip as I don't want to remove the glass, or interior. That said - I'm not sure it can go much faster. It slayed a few Porches, Caterhams, a Dodge Viper, some Ferrari's and a few GT40's on the day - I think even Herbi would have fallen in half by now!! I am going to try it at Pod soon to see if it's better there.
Arfur Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 It's the first time you've used that new 'box in anger, lad - get some more runs in before you start on something else! If there's no improvement in times, then you have permission to moan!
puddy Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Nicest mk1 tina at brighton on saturday if nothing else mate puddy Ps. let me know when you are going up pod, you can't go without your fan club remember

Toby Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 It's the first time you've used that new 'box in anger, lad - get some more runs in before you start on something else! If there's no improvement in times, then you have permission to moan! I'm not moaning It's just, to go any faster I might have to dig up Einstien and tell him to re-write the laws of relativity - for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction - this usually translates into... More grip = more broken bits (Of course I wont give up just yet!) Nicest mk1 tina at brighton on saturday if nothing else mate puddy Ps. let me know when you are going up pod, you can't go without your fan club remember As you say - it really was "one" of the nicest! They're so common! There is one on Saturday I see......

martymk1 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 its always been on the sunday, starts off from the ace, usually go there to watch them off, they have to close off the 406 for about 45 mins, to let all the bikes go

I was a little unhappy with the performance but even more unhappy with the lady in Stratford who drove into my car on the A Frame behind the van. Luckily the damage is minor but it will need the door and wing repaired. She told me she was letting the van in but not the car - that wasn't going to be easy with the car attached to the van!! Beautifull , my dream car. have to see it sometime Thank's you obviously like Mk1's from your sig pic

Oh no!! Classic case of her not paying attention and what is it with people when they see an old car that they feel the need to pull out in front of it? I'm forever jumping on the brakes because some tw*t decided to jump in front. Hope you get it sorted soon, without too much aggro. I understand about the time on the track but it looked damn quick to me
