Noodles Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 I hate that run off noise from the rollers
DEJT Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Congrats WPE awesome engine, just a look at the graph you can see the engine is making 270 gee gees, let alone listen to it go. You can see by the graph transmission losses are quite high, guessing down to the t5 box. Regards sanspeeds figures i have been going to sanspeed for many many years and peter will give you both wheel and fly figures, and has done everytime i have been there to help you highlight problems such as bad transmission losses as is the case here.
Guest H.P.E ANDY Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 peter at sanspeed may give you figures at flywheel mate and wheels but from the horses mouth mate it wer'nt 270 bhp at flywheel mate still impressive horsepower what it was, but wayne is a sensible enough person to realize that
DEJT Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 If you know peters work, you will see from the graph that it is showing 270 at the flywheel, i have also heard from the horses mouth that it made 270. Considering the task the engine was needed for, dont think 230 would sufice and as it has smashed the record i think that speaks for itself. Anyway wayne is very genuine guy and wouldnt entertain horsepower bollox, would just let the results speak for themselves!
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 The graph does show nearly 280 KW (if i'm not mistaken) but i don't know what BHP that's equal too , anyone know for sure ?
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 just done a quick calc and 280 KW =276 BHP unless i've cocked it up
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Just done a calc on another site as it says that 280 KW is 375 bhp !!!!!!! I foooookin give up !!!!!!!!

We know peters work & he always looks on the wall above the graph machine, where there is a conversion chart , which he then works out the flywheel power output from the wheel output. That is fact & no one is suggesting that Wayne would tell Porkies, obviously a genuine misinterpretation of the conversion figures, may have been a possibility. Still awsome power from a N/A Cossy lump. Jeff Harris.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 30, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 30, 2007 Whatever the figure ..... this car and engine and driver have just broken the all time lap record for this very famous circuit and I take my hats off to all those involved regardless of figures .... well done guys Please don't let this thread detract from the superb end result
Fiesta Steve Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 All seems a bit hit & miss too me But whatever the results Wayne came up with the goods as they got the job done, well done lads
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Doesn't this graph show power almost hitting 280 KW's or not ? So if we find out what 280 KW's is then we've cracked it , yes or no ?
DEJT Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Yea credit where credits due. Very big well done guys! Results speak 4 themselves!

Absolute humungus achievement, well done lads. Jeff Harris.
DEJT Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Have got the exact formula for working out peters graphs written down somewhere will try and dig it out, you also have to take into account the troffs under the graph which is the trans losses when working it all out. have a graph here for 220 horse and micks graff is considerably larger! Anyway its done the job so it dont really matter. Well done again!
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 well using my old sanspeed graph for a 185 bhp pinto each little square on the KW vertical scale must be 8.8 bhp . So 28 little squares on this engine =246 bhp . ( i could be wrong though )
DEJT Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 That gives you the wheel fig. now add in the 6 sq underneath which is the trans loss and it gives you 270 near as dam it. this is how peter works them out adding the 2 together to get the fly result. this was how he explained it to me last time i was there.

I'm still confused though even though i got a C.S.E. in maths in 1985 !!!!!!!!!!

When I looked at my Dads graph reading & compared it to the one in question, the 230hp it made, it hit the bar & followed it in a straight horizontal line.! Whereas the graph in question went up & dropped before hitting the bar.. Now forgive my ignorance, is there anyway that Peter pushes something to compensate for a bigger horsepower reading to be assesed that wont pick up on the said machine.!!?? Jeff Harris..
DEJT Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Not sure you would have to ask peter that. As i said that was the way he explained it when i was there last. Anyway this could go on forever and it really aint that important is it? The desired result was acheived the lap record! congrats!
jimmyesh Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Amazing Engine and amazing driver! A big well done from me for cracking that lap record mate! That engine is obviously producing the goods and I agree with those that say it's around 270bhp, if you interpret the graph correctly that's what you see People can't really take anything away from the W.P.E lump's build quality and what forms it's power/torque curves take when it so obviously has the minerals at the end of the day!

Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 1, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 1, 2007 Just out of interest it would be good to get Peter on here .... anyone know if he is computer savvy to explain the figures ???
James HPE Motorsport Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Just out of interest it would be good to get Peter on here .... anyone know if he is computer savvy to explain the figures ??? It would be nice to know exactly how its worked out Jo because I was just looking at my graph from Fridays rolling road session at Sanspeed where my motor made 169bhp and If you work the graph out the way that DJET said that peter does it then Ive got 203bhp so I think there is something wrong somewhere in the calculation!!! Plus I have never heard of an Atmo Cossie with anywhere near that! Good job though guys, I dont think I would ever remember the circuit!!!
