Colin McRae's Funeral

I know that Colin's death is well known, but dont know if everyone knows that the GREAT MAN OF RALLYING was laid to rest today.

Fantastic that OSF carries his banner on the boards

 

Let us not forget Richard Burns, his great friend & competitor.

 

British Rallying has lost two great souls in 2 short years ......

It was only today I learned of Bertie Fisher, an Irish rally driver, he too died of a helicopter crash back in 2001 which also killed his son and a daughter. He too was piloting the helicopter, which I believe was also a squirrel helicopter

Didnt know Bertie Fisher was gone as well

He used to race/rally/build the best Manta's around in the '80's!

 

Remember Russell Brookes, Bertie Fisher & Jimmy McRae (all in Manta 400's) battling for the British Championships back in the '80's.

 

Where is the national news coverage though? This is a sad time for the sport (through no fault of Rallying - take note you H&S wallys) but next to no coverage?

McRae & Burnsie were top guys, I had a chat with them both when queueing to get into the Supercross at the Sheffield areana some years ago.

 

They think the McRae crash was a mechanical fault:

Another helicopter fatality was British Superbike/TT star Steve Hislop in 2003.

i met them both too at the bologne airport in december 1996. great loss to the motor sport. both were gentlemen to me- as a fan and there aint that many famous people who remain loyal to their fans. RIP
