Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 what would be average for a 2.1 pinto with a cam(sorry not sure what cam yet) so well go for a mild road cam twin 48s(are they a good choice?) lighened flywheel nice exhaust would i be expecting too much if i thought i would get 150 bhp out of it (at the wheels) sorry if i sound a bit daft but not up on bhp outputs
Admin Vista Posted October 10, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 10, 2007 48's are very big carbs for road use with a mild cam and would likely be very grumbly except when you're really driving it hard. I'd stick with 45's, you can still get plenty of power out of them without all the hissy fits lower down the rev range. 150 is quite an increase over standard and would probably need headwork and a little more than just a mild cam. Still easily achievable with the right budget though.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 ok ill go for 45s cheers aparrently its got a ported/polished head not sure about valves so what do you recon 120 at the wheels
James HPE Motorsport Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Like Vista said, with that spec of engine I would go for 45's! I run 48's on my x-flow and to be honest it is a pain in the arse on the road, however it is fantastic flat chat which is the comprimise. Only buy 48's if you plan on going big power in the near future! And at a guess I think you should expect a little under 150 without headwork, and that is at the flywheel! hope this helps!!!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 nice one how much bhp do you loose through transmision
James HPE Motorsport Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Transmission loss can be specific to your own vehicle but i would expect a loss of 30bhp or more!!! I have seen cars on the rollers with almost 50bhp loss which is excessive!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 when your on the rolling road is the figure you get for the wheels then or flywheel
James HPE Motorsport Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 depends on rolling road i think! Sanspeed does flywheel figures
Admin Vista Posted October 10, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 10, 2007 Modern RR set ups can give you both figures, this is achieved by measuring the drag on run down and running those figures through the RR computer to calculate the gearing loss for your car. Personally, I always have more faith in the figures at the wheels as it's what I can actually get onto the tarmac that's important to me. On the other hand people often quote the flywheel figure as it's higher. For instance, telling someone "my car's got 190 bhp!" can sound a lot more impressive than "my car's got 160bhp at the wheels."
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 yes its the wheel figure im interested in too whats the one you get in haynes manuals wheels or flywheel
Admin Vista Posted October 10, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 10, 2007 I'm not 100% sure but 90% that Haynes will quote flywheel figures.
