Lukey Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 I heard water based paints are good enough to drink, is this true ? Nah mate, we use a new waterbase system at work, makes you gag more than solvent! have you noticed thou ya just stop smelling it in the end but if a member of the public comes in they always say about the smell .. what smell Does your stuuf change colour? Ours is wierd. Black goes on green then dries through blue before going black Silver goes on blue then goes silver. Major head F**k whatching it dry off!
hotrodholty Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2003/e03203.htm it seems this would explain being diagnosed with asthma a few months back and i tell you what now the cold weather has arrived its made itself known to me. i know theres a lot of heresay on the risks involved, i have contributed to some of it. im pretty convinced this is the main cause as i dont smoke and am not really exposed to anything else to induce such symptoms. its got me quite worried at the mo so im gonna get some allergy tests and stuff done to make sure. mask up. its not just heresay iv had athsma all my life, i smoke and as you say it gets worse in the winter. my doc gave me an inhailer which contains a steriod to build up your lungs. one thing you can do to improve the situation is a bit of cardio vascular excersise. i started doing about 20 mins a day on a bike and after a couple of weeks my lungs felt stronger than ever. i wasnt coughing or weezing anywhere near as much as i used to. doing a bit of exersise keeps the elastisity in your lungs and forces your airways open wider than normal. sounds like a pain in the arse but after a bit 20mins a day on an excersise bike is nothing, it just becomes routine. plus you,ll shift a bit of wieght making your car a bit quicker off the mark
Rick Posted October 20, 2007 Author Report Posted October 20, 2007 i dont get much excercise lately. it may have contributed to it guess im getting old now
hotrodholty Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 honestly mate its worth a go. i smoke them funny smellin ciggies with no filter ( if ye know what i mean) and doin the excersise sorted me out. i only realised what a difference it made when i stopped excersising for a couple of months and started to feel fooked running up the stairs or doing anything other than sitting on my arse watchin the telly.

ALL4SHOW Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 they called it industrial asthma when i saw my doctor for it about 14yrs ago as i worked in a bodyshop repairing hgv's & he said it was the fumes & filler dust as they have fine particales in them . when i left there i never had a problem again till i started working in a bakery & then i had the odd problem with breathing & it was the flour i also notice some chemicals can make it harder to breath as but ive just put it down to family history as my mum has it really bad & my brother did when he was younger . but i find it hard to breath in some of the dush masks but its dust & stuff that sets it off
m1c Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 id advise anyone 'new' to asthma to have a flu jab - and any other asthmatics who dont already makes a world of difference with the cold weather
harris horse power Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 ive got quite bad ashma and started workin in a body shop and it does make the ashma worse and now you come to mention it , it does make you sh*te defferent dont ask me how? also a mask does help alot but you need to cover your whole body especially your eyes as they are a good way of the solvents getting into you blood! simon
hotrodholty Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 id advise anyone 'new' to asthma to have a flu jab - and any other asthmatics who dont already makes a world of difference with the cold weather got my flu jab and a pneumonia jab one in each arm last week. all my mates took the piss calling me an old fart. lets see who looks like an old fart when theyre all wrapped up in bed chewing lockets and drinking benelin with snot all over the place

Still doin mine in direct gloss though!
deluxemk1 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 I been using waterbase for ten years now its slower than solvent but when you get used to it you wont want anything else.Been using Glasurit and ICI systems.A friend at Lechler told me this week they have just started to sell a waterbourne clearcoat now,it seems they have finaly done it.It looks cloudy and marbalised when it sprays on then as each coat flashes off the marble effect vanishes as the water evapourates in it gonna trial some and see wot its like. Still got Isocyanate in it though I think.I always use air fed wotever though mask up everyone!
kirk10 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 i use Lechler water based system then Lechler macrofan hs clear coat none iso seems a good clear laquer and dosnt turn light colours dark every 1 is banging on about churchills laquer tho but not tryed it yet
deluxemk1 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 do you rate the hydrofan system then? They are trying to get me to have their mixing scheme in my workshop.Im a big fan of glasurit laquer the old 255 high solid was an awesome weapon and the new complient 888 hs clear is awesome to.Ici or Nexa as its now know is not very good clear it messes with silvers,to many uv blockers in it very yellow when stirred. The aquabase colour is really good though and easy to work with. The macrofan hs clear by lechler is quite good I do use it a lot now ,but I always give our customers the choice of paint ie good or relly nice with a price to go with it.Got to try this new lechler water base clear coat and see wot its like,I didnt even know they had got it to work. The paint companys have been trying for ages to make this work but all efforts had taken way to long to try and they had lost gloss, now it seems they cracked it.Anyone know if glasurit or any other top guns have got one out as well yet? (Mitchville autobodies)
harris horse power Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 at my old places we used to use the white labelled bmw laquare went on rather nice but it tends to sag more then the nexa stuff we had
deluxemk1 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 yeah I used that as well bout 5 years ago. Its basicly glasurit material labeled in bmw cans but the laquer is thinner,I agree you had to be careful with it it polished nice but you had to respect the stuff when spraying i have a sata 3000 rp digital for clear nice gun but very fierce.Im a sata anorak as far as paint guns go
xpackken Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 ive just set up a mobile smart repair bussiness and am using lechler basecoat is not bad at all realy for matching etc . but its the laquer that matters in my eyes ya cant beat PPG d800 IN FACT YFKT. i do use the leckler macrofan thou on the cheaper jobs some places are selling it as cheap as 17 quid it does flat off after a couple of months thou . id rather keep the clear stuff solvent tbh althou i love the waterbase coat . another good laquer to use is max meyer but be carefull i found even in an oven and fast hardner and some rocket it can run (flows out slow )(every gets um . wereas PPG can go on real wet . _________________ Algerian Forum
kirk10 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 im in the mobile smart repair busness me self best ive tryed so far is like i say the macrofan hs clear coat none iso think its great stuff and dosnt turn light colours darker at all 50 % laquer hs clear-- 01/111 25 % hardner extra speedy-- 00 174 and 5 % anti bloom thinners if that found thats the best way to mix it goes on well and has a good deep shine drys pritty fast aswell the leqluer water base kit is very good for colour matching ive found just have to make sure you siv it before it goes in the gun tho and keep your hand out of the wet and dry bucket lol
deluxemk1 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Nice one looks like il get the lechler mixing scheme then having it instaled before our meet at Mitchville Autobodies on the 17th nov,.Will probably use ici or glasurit clear though I want superior products on my hot rods and old skool fords! We do custom airbrush work as well I laquered some test pieces last night one is a mk1 tina bonnet funnily enuf Il post some pics of em tonight when I get home.We can also do canvas portraits and pics of your car racing or whatever.Geoff who works with me was a portrait artist for twenty years I think his work is quite special we use house of colour on them
Stu_B Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 i dont get much excercise lately. it may have contributed to it guess im getting old now It's all downhill from there mate
Rick Posted October 27, 2007 Author Report Posted October 27, 2007 turns out my asthma wasnt all it cracked up to be, was just helluva conjested and combined with the cold made it worse. sudafed cures all... i think anyway i feel 100% better now let the painting continue
