I've been thinking more about trying to secure the car or at least track it if it goes.

Someone pointed out a unit from ebay (£50) that can be tracked by one of the mobile tracking services (www.followus.co.uk), the service is quite cheap to sign up for and doesn't cost much for each track.

I started to think, why shell out £50? how many people have an old mobile sat in a drawer that you could lob in a pay as you go SIM, get a car charger and attach it permanently & wire it to a fused supply.

Set the phone to silent etc then hide it away in the car somewhere...

What do you reckon? I guess the flaw is in the abilities of the tracking company but I think the police use a similar method

I might challenge the tracking company to test...

I think it's a damn good idea but in theory you'd need a number of phones wired up to your car because different networks are tracked by different phone masts or so im told...

Yes mate get your coat, any decent thief would see the string

Not if you covered the string in leaves.

Or! Paint the car in invisible paint  - then you only need the string so you can find it!

Genius!

Or you could tie a small but very long piece of string to the door handle!

Shall I go now?

i thought that when i first read the thread hours ago, glad i wernt the only one

i posted the trackers on on here the phone idea is basicly all it is but it is a striped down version the only thing i'd say is the phone idea is it going to flaten the battary on the car if its not used regulary but some one needs to try it to find out :thumbsup:

I used one for a little while but it broke.

There's a thread about it on the site somewhere. The accuracy wasn't that good. When it was parked on my drive, the website said it was parked in a field about a quarter of a mile away. However, when I was in manchester, it was just about spot on. Accuracy depends on how many telephone masts are in the area.
