awesome Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Once again fantastic mag ......... Just one thing that i can't get used to is way some of your photographers light the people in the shots i.e.:- page 22 the faces of the two chaps burnt out.......... page 84/85 all the people burnt out one flash on the camera would have had better results then two studio lights on full power page 86 bottom middle totally burnt out faces.... Page 107 burnt out faces........ Don't know if this is the style you like. but i'm sure the people in the photos don't ............or is your photographer practicing for halloween.......slap for smart arse remark It's a shame to spoil someones feature with burnt out faces P.S. I do this for a living Photography not Nagging Hope you don't mind me commenting P.S. Nice 3 photos of my car in the mag again good photographer that Simon ..........

It's not the photographers' fault, it's piss-poor repro, I'm afraid. But, it's being sorted.
over_head_cam Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 It's all good. The less you can see me the better
awesome Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 It's not the photographers' fault, it's piss-poor repro, I'm afraid. But, it's being sorted. It's me your talking to Ed i do know about lighting and i think you will find it is the photographers lighting techneque I've had a look at loads of back issues and they are all the same over lit on the people............... I do this for a living Photography not heckling I know the retouching dept could darken down the faces but if they are as so over exposed as in the mag this week ,They wouldn't get any detail in there ,The faces would just turn grey

aphspeed Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 To be honest if the photos looked like that in the first place they wouldn;t be used in the magazine. It's an ongoing repro issue. THe paper quality and printing doesn't help either.

It's an ongoing repro issue. THe paper quality and printing doesn't help either. Hate to drag this on but it's not the printing come on If the rest of the picture is ok and the faces of the people on the left are like albino's dont blame it on the printers Have a look back at all the features of Gerard Hughes and you will find shed loads I just picked up a few mags to check July 2007 page107 aug 2007 page109 sept 2007 page 95 And it's only when he's photographing people with their cars almost every feature he dose the people are overexposed all the rest of his work is great so for the printers just to get the same sort of shot wrong just with one photographer just dosen't happen before you reply before i was a photographer i used to be a printer..... This is not a witch hunt re :- Gerard as it's so easy to criticise one anothers work but if i was doing something wrong my mates would soon tell me ...................... hope you dont mind me putting this shot on here so the other readers can see what i'm on about i've outlined the shaddow in red so you can see how harsh the flash was
over_head_cam Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I don't mean to be rude, but is it important? Does anyone really care? The car looks good and the write up is the bollox
emu Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 As a none photography type bod that feature looks spot-on to me. I see what you mean now that its been pointed out, but TBH reading the magazine I didnt look at it and think WTF, I assumed that that was the effect that was aimed for
Toby Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I don't even have a camera but was that not taken in sunlight? My copy has got a very obvious shadow of the bosses head on the door behind him, not, caused by a fllash on the camera IMAO! Also didn't find it too offensive, but do agree the photogrphy should be as good as possible.
Lukey Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 I don't mean to be rude, but is it important? Does anyone really care? The car looks good and the write up is the bollox I Agree, not being rude to the builder/owners but I buy the mag to look at the quality motors! not thier mugs! lol
