Messenjah Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 hi guys, my friend has a little 106 and she is havign a problem with it cutting out randomly and soemtimes not starting and stuff now i thought i had sussed ti when i found that her alternator belt had snapped but that has been replaced and it still does it. i havent had a chance to have a proper look at it but you guys got any ideas
Twinkle Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 did the belt take any wires out when it snapped or cause any loose connections?
bmxdave Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Its French, thats why. Sorry. Couldnt help it. All i can say is check all the wiring in the engine bay and around the ECU. A problem like that is often a loose wire or earth or a sticking relay or solenoid. Is it turning over but not firing or not turning over at all? We often have small cummins engined buses break down, and its just the live feed to the stop solenoid. It stops fuel entering the pump. Could be a similar situation.
Messenjah Posted October 26, 2007 Author Report Posted October 26, 2007 apparently it happens most often when there is a big change in speed like coming off a dual carriageway onto a roundabout or something ...
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 The fault you describe was on another model of car quite recently... sure that was a Peugeot, maybe a 206 Anyway, definatley check the connections/plugs etc. like the other lads have said, but another frequent problem can be the throttle position sensor, this tells the ECU where the accelerator is, then the ECU decides how much fuel to throw in. I have seen this fault on a Ford before (Believe it or not). Best thing to do is get it to a place that can 'plug it in' otherwise you may never find the fault, but I would only do this after I have given the car a good service because it maybe something silly like a dirty air mass meter. Hope this makes sense *edit* Just thought I would make this a bit clearer. The throttle position sensor is a potentiometer (Has little tracks and sprung feet inside it), if the tracks are dirty, the reading to the ECU will break up. So, if the ECU doesn't get a reading, it may not tell the injectors to squirt the fuel. The same for a possibly dirty air mass meter, there is a very fine wire element inside it, if it is caked up with shite, the ECU isn't given an exact reading. I have known these to stop a car idling before.
Trevmk3 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 crap in tank or fuel filter dont crap in the tank as this could block the fuel line
fiesta1981 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 about the 106 its only broke because its not a ford
escort new boy Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 my mom had a 206 diesel and it hated low speeds but as soon at you open it up say 40 plus it was fine , it uster hold back quite often
Fiesta Steve Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 My moneys on the ignition moudual, about £20 for a new replacement. Halfrauds should do them.
