If I'm buying a manual gearbox (t9) what should I look out for in terms of condition? Obviously I can ask the questions about mileage and use. But are there places that I should check for wear, play and damage?

Cheers,

Jim

Luck of the draw I think... just had to do the same thing myself - a replacement 2nd hand 3.0 Essex box, now fitted and runs lovely. I was told it was a good one and it was only removed from previous car because the fella wanted a 5 speed. Got a 3 month warranty on it too for £140 (Tickover in Kent) a recon would have been £380 exchange

Give the input shaft a wiggle from side to side, there will be a few mm movement but it shouldn't waggle about loads, take the top off and drop a magnet on a string into it to check for swarf and look for damaged teeth on the gears.

The biggest killer of the T9 is lack of oil so if it's toped up thats a good sign, personly i allways try to get CVH boxes out of 5ierras cos those engines dont make enough torque to do any real damage
