Guest MK1gaz Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 We also had some non oldskoolfords as well which was nice . 2 x oldskool m5 Bmw's , a 3 door cosworth , a focus , twin turbo lexus , etc
chris@torque of the devil Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Thanks for comming chaps . We'll do it again next year for sure Perhaps some where with more flattering figures!! Did you run again without your Air filter? no mate they wanted to go home but i took it off anyway and it feels much better according to the "mk1gaz poo my pants" arse dyno !!!!!!! IMO that's probably much more accurate!! if you want to believe your "higher power figure" Toby go ahead!, i thought your car was great power for a non crossflow headed engine.
PIG Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 so is anyone gonna tell us what they all made today then please

No offence intended - the green smiley meant I was joking about Gaz's Pooy pants being more accurate!! I fully believe your dyno figures, I saw them with my own eyes!! Your workshop is tidy and professional. Your hospitallity - bacon buttys and tea - not to mention all the staff who seemed like genuine enthusiasts themselves, really made the day great. The only problem I have with the day is it makes some of us look like we "made up" our previous power claims, when I had seen them too with our own eyes. As your figures are right, given it's got a good reputation for accuracy, I think I might look into a bit more head work, as I seem to be MILES off the 100 bhp per litre! Thanks again for a great day!
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I spoke to Chris earlier today and explained that you was only joking (Toby) and was only having a laugh at my bum dyno referance . He said he loved your car and it's engine and he'd never ever seen a pre-xflow get anywhere near the figuire yours reached . They all thought we were a top bunch of car nuts and a very friendly lot so that's brilliant feedback for the oldskoolford posse . We are the best
Toby Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 We are the best Sorry you had to appologise for my dry humour! He seemed very knowledgeable, and probably gets very bored of the "that can't be right" debate!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 Yes they get it all the time mate , the Alcoholics Anonymous turbo posse took it very bad when their big bhp turbo cossies weren't that big after all !!!!!! . That probably explains why 230ish bhp atmo 2 litres looked as fast down the straights as so called 500 bhp turbos at brands hatch the other month .

Thanks again for a great day! 100 bhp/litre is no mean feat fella, garys 16v crossflow headed cosworth engine didnt even make it on the day , he seems to think its better with the air filter removed though!, Toby, I was genuinely amazed at how much power your car made, if it had of made 190 bhp i think i would have fallen over!, I see many cars, Ferrari's, cossys, screaming zetecs and honda vtecs, they didnt impress me like your little four pot did!

I've ditched the foam air filter now mate so it's back to 212 bhp and 100 bhp a litre (i hope) . It certainly feels better and sounds even harder even if it's now sucking all the dust in !!!!!!!!
marky4 Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 run mine without filters gaz sounds so much better
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 run mine without filters gaz sounds so much better The thing is getting the air filter to fit cost me lots of time and money because i had to get spacers made so the backplate missed the fuel injectors , then i tried about 3 different combinations of air boxes/filters etc and after all that grief it's lost me lots of power . I wish i hadn't bothered now but i would really like an air filter on the engine in an ideal world Here's the dyno plot from last month which was recorded without the air filter fitted .

Guest MK1gaz Posted December 2, 2007 Report Posted December 2, 2007 I will need to get an air filter thats much further away from the trumpet faces than the present one is but the only problem is that the cars inner wings are in the way . I could maybe get an angled upwards inlet manifold or something but not sure yet
Toby Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 I could maybe get an angled upwards inlet manifold or something but not sure yet That would look nice but HT tend to make as straight a path as possible into the port, which makes some sence in my mind as your not loosing momentum in the air as it goes in. How do foam filters compare to K&N? Your power figures are fantastic Gaz now we know how honest (read stingey ) the road is, is your engine a genuine 2.0, the wealden race car was a 2.1 but Jems recon they can get more out of a 2.0. I think I heard they recon the bores flex a bit in an over bore. I wonder if the valves proximity to the bore wall creates a venturi effect? Any thoughts? Thanks for you kind words Chris. Have you seen many full race crossflows? I only ask to see what's out there and what might be possible? I am going to finish my other head off, hopefully over the winter, I will make you fall over!!
chris@torque of the devil Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 I can feel myself going now Toby!
SmokeEm Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 run mine without filters gaz sounds so much better Get some filters on it now Mark! - Don't want you filling the engine up with dust before I make you an offer you can't refuse for it now do I .....
MK2Ed Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Personally I forgo the filters when racing (track day, OSFDC, etc) and put them on for the (dusty) road - but mine are socks so easy to get on/off...

I see what you mean about the straight inlet path but alot of the full monty race engines are using angled inlets i've noticed lately , may be worth a try next year as i need a much bigger air filter than the one i've got . I like K+Ns better than the foam jobbies but they aren't big enough for my engines power (so i was told) as the whole front part/cover is metal instead of a filter (if you know what i mean) . My engine is less than 2.1 as it's only got a slight overbore not the max size one (I'm sure he said it was 2.04 litres when i asked before) but i wouldn't know if the valves postion causes anything special to happen or not . I know i can get one of those big valve YB heads on it and it should make another load of power as they flow serious ammounts of air but cost £1300
Toby Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Just get your wallet out!! Inlet lengths can affect things too so a longer curved up one could be a bonus on yours. It's all down to trial and error, or going to somone who knows, and that means it's all down to money!! Tom Hanks and The Money Pit!!

Guest MK1gaz Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Toby i'll definatley be getting one of those big valve heads later on . I just need to get the money first though as no doubt it will end up costing about £2000 by the time you get all the bits that go with it (head gasket set , re-do engine mapping , replace studs/threads that will snap or round off etc etc ) . On second thoughts it sounds like grief so maybe i won't bother !!!!!!!
