morning!!!!

 

right, whats the rules and regulations on swapping a knackered shell with id into a good bodyshell???

 

im guessing buying an ID off of ebay and then wacking it on a shell isnt legal?

 

if i had a good shell but no ID how would i go about getting one?

its all done on a points system for things like axle, engine etc etc

 

at the end of the day bash ringing a car is not illegal unless you are trying to hide a stolen vehicle or tryin to evade car tax. most escorts by now have no numbers on the shell, they tend to disapear as soon as you do a strut top :lol:

 

there are a lot of old skools out there that have been reshelled just look at the old rally cars even ford themselves did it all the time

but surely when you have a knackered mk1, and a good shell you should be able to transfer them over, no?

My Fiesta has no floor numbers 'cos its been welded to death. You also don't need a chassis id tag on these old cars. So the only reference to any id is the number plates.

 

So there's not a lot stopping me from putting any number plates on I like. Like I said, who's to know :wink:

so when my black things rusts away all together i could weld up the numbers stamped on the beige thing and just rivit the black ones ID tag on.......and change the logbook to beige :lol:

only a ringer if you are covering a stolen car, otherwise its a reshell which if you keep enough of the original cars parts to give you the correct amount of points you can keep the cars original id

over here a tampered chassi no is an instant mot failure. First thing they do at the test centres is to open the bonnet and see whether its there. If you need to replace the strut top plate you have to show it to the authorities before and after

but with the old cars like escorts the only stamped numbers are on the strut tops and if they have been replaced then the chassis wont have any stamped id

thats why you have to show it to the authorities before you replace the panel with the number, and afterwards to get a new one stamped there
