STUFORD Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Hi there, i own a mk2 cortina 1600 super of 1970 vintage. I'd like to swap the engine for a 2ltr pinto will this go strait onto my original gearbox ? what other mods will i need to do as ive been told the engine should bolt onto the original mounts? Oh and i now i need to modify the sump !! Thanks and keep up the good work .
escort21 Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Not sure on the mounts, you'll need a different sump, and the steering gear will foul the exhaust manifold so you'll have to make a manifold or convert to rack and pinion steering

V8ian Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 The engine will deffo bolt up on the original mounts, you may have to mod the heater bulge to clear the cam cover, you can get a sump that is correct for the job but its rare in this country, american 2 litre pinto,not 2.3, I cant remember when i last saw one, it will be quicker to build a new sump . escort21 Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Saw a mk2 tina with a pinto and steering box at billing this year...the exhaust manifold was a mass of welded pipes at odd angles and looked very restrictive
