Rick Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 bit of help needed as insurance is rying to fook me over. : cancelled a policy 2 months ago after a crash. (not my fault i might add) they just sent me a bill for the rest of the years policy which they say they will be debiting from my account due to an unfinished claim and may be refunded if claim is in my favour. surely they cannot just take £250 out my account if im not even using the car which is scrapped on my dads drive. i gave him a bollocking on the phone but to no avail. i might just close my bank account so they cant take shit. surely they should wait til after the claim has been prosessed before taking money from me. Any help appreciated as iv never dealt with insurance and i cant help but feel im being shafted
escort new boy Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 cancel the direct debit with your bank
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Welcome to the wonderful world of insurance companies mate, they are a law unto themselves. If this claim is still open and in the process of being settled, I would be very careful about cancelling any payments as they could turn around and say "you have cancelled your DD therefore you are no longer insured" The worst case senario is, you may end up with loads of bills through your letter box for someone elses mistake. I am afraid you will have to bite the bullet with this one mate, and pay them what they ask, I know it's a shitter, but if the accident wasn't your fault, you have nothing to worry about. You certainly wouldn't want to jepordise your chances of a payout as well. But don't worry, if they say you will get it refunded, you will. It is like having to pay an excess for repairs to your car, even if it wasn't your fault. You do get it back. Best of luck mate, and be patient
V8ian Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 This is normal, if there is a claim going thru, they will not allow you to terminate the policy only allow to let it lapse. The way I see what they are doing, is if the claim goes against you, they have obtained the full preimum to help cover their costs, Phone them up and I am sure it will be in some of the small print and they will be able to quote it over the phone to you Ian
Rick Posted October 30, 2006 Author Report Posted October 30, 2006 I am afraid you will have to bite the bullet with this one mate, and pay them what they ask yeah i do see your point there... i managed to get the payment deadline knocked back a month a least, i dont really want to jeapordise my claim either... 'AGHRRR'.. thats better you reckon il definately get it back if the claims in my favour then?

A mate of mine has just finished dealing with his company after his Fiesta had been hit while it was parked. Insurance companies have never been known for paying out promptly, but they do in the end, you just have to keep on at them. BTW, I would feel alot happier if I could get that in writing, they can't wriggle out of it later on you see Best of luck
Rick Posted October 30, 2006 Author Report Posted October 30, 2006 so they let you know when they have decided the case? sorry to ask so many questions but iv never been involved in a claim before and they can never give straight answers
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 No probs mate. Yes, they will let you know. They will always keep in touch using written correspondance i.e. lots of letters. If you don't hear anything for a while, just give them a bell and ask. I have had only one dealing with an insurance company in my life, but my family and friends have had a few. I also used to work for insurance approved bodyshops and I have found that getting on the phone and generally making yourself a nuicance will get their a*ses into gear.
