MexDan Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 I'm trying to get the Mex back on the road ready for the Ace meet next Sat... So.. sorting rear brakes and found the drum was full of oil so new half shaft bearing/oil seal I was going to swap the diff to give it more cruising ability... so 4.4:1 on there atm.. got the the process of taking the old diff out and noticed the new one has 4.1 written on it. SO.. is there such a thing as a 4.1 diff or is it just a lazy bugger only put 4.1 out of the 4.4:1 it should have been?? Cheers!
bomber1 Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 4.4 4.1 3.89 3.77 3.54 is the diff range
MexDan Posted December 8, 2007 Author Report Posted December 8, 2007 Cheers Mate... So.. is there much if a jump between 4.4 and 4.1... i'll guess i'll take a jump and stick the 4.1 in and see what happens.. can only be the same cant it
bomber1 Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 that i dont know tbh but its only half a turn less on the prop for a full revolution of the wheel. but if u want it for the ace and thats all u got throw it in in a suck it n see? tho just as a guide the mk1 mex had the 3.77 as standard and the mk1 rs2000s had the 3.54. depends on what u want out of the car?
alladdin Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 in my experiance with 186/60/13 tyres a 4.1 is just livable on the road, a 4.4 aint. are you sure it wasnt hydraulic oil ? ie brake fluid.
MexDan Posted December 8, 2007 Author Report Posted December 8, 2007 cheers for your help guys... 4.1 is in.. it was def diff oil in the brake drum.. alot of thick black oil came out when i took the drum off.. and there was suprisingly little in the diff case itself... will be getting new half shaft bearings and seals pressed on on monday tho Thanks once again
