ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 ...what would I have to do, and how much would it cost?
Nick Mexi-cos Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Here ya go matey try this page or send mr wigger a pm http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=96
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Depends whos dyno you stick it on as you probably wouldn't get 200 bhp on some . The best way is to buy a good ready built engine from the people that build all the quick ones and there's alot of good engine builders on this site to choose from . There's also a tasty 2.2 Harris pinto for sale in the parts section all complete with 50 dcoes etc and ready to rip for £2500 , PM spitbarnet as it's his
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 Cheers I'm just wondering what's involved that's all. So it's a case of a rebore to 2.1 or 2.2, new pistons, big valve head with some work done, fast road/race cam, 48s or 50s. New crank and bottom end?
c1arke Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 sam i think he was a real engine not a fake BHP
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 You don't even need 200 bhp , they go like stink with much less as they have a huge power band . A stroked cranked 2.2 pinto goes like a bastard as seen in most of the quick oldskoolfords these days . Lots of ways to do it but it's depending on your budget and intended use . Basically you could use cheap 2.8 V6 pistons and either x-flow or 1600 diesil rods or use forged pistons and/or aftermarket steel rods for a circuit race car etc . People who've never experianced one won't believe it but they honestly go like fooooooook and you'll need a mega expensive 16v engine to keep up with one

Posse Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Mike lol just remember not to get them filters that gaz got
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Bastard thing nicked 16 bhp (25 bhp everywhere else then) and it's supposed to be free flowing , more like a sponge blockade and now located in my boot !!!!!!

Gaz is right though, you won't believe how quick a pinto can be
Posse Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Gz i can't wait to see you up the pod in the old girl I think mikes post is whats cheaper to build?
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 Yeah, I was thinking, forget all the cost of fitting an engine into a car that wasn't designed for it. Say I have a budget of £1500 to tune an engine and I want as near to 200 as possible. I'd have to get a rebore, new pistons, rods, cams and headwork. Then the usual like 48s, bunch of bananas manifold etc.
Guest MK1gaz Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 you won't get 200 bhp for £1500 buying all new parts . Carbs cost £700 on their own so give up now and buy a sensible car !!!!!!!!

Guest MK1gaz Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Get a 2.1 pinto with cast V6 pistons and use the standard rods/crank etc etc with a good head + twin carbs . Fast and cheapest way into the 14's without slicks and half the car missing
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 Go jap That was an option. 4A-GE.
Posse Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 High 180's with V6 pistons and injection rods Anything over for reliability you need to go forged pistons and steel rods
PIG Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 xe lump, cheap easy install for great power gains imo,set of 48's and cams should see 190 i would think.arp it tho
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 My choices of engine, in order of preference were: XE Zetec 4AGE Pinto I've done the Zetec so am considering something else. Both the XE and Pinto requires a quite bit of bulkhead work, which I'm happy to do.
mk1mexico Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 I now have a very good 2.0 litre blacktop with your name all over it mate

With a wild cam a stroked 2.2 will give well over 200bhp, but if you want it to be properly driveable then you're better toning the cam and carbs down a little. You'll still get a very wide power band with superb torque and a good peak figure around or just under 200bhp. Mine runs on 45's and is just short of that figure but has masses of grunt from around 3000rpm. I'd go with the forged pistons rather than the cast ones if your budget will stretch to it though.
