Anyone encountered this before? I knew it happens but was very surprised when i pull everything out to find that. Does it happen often? I thought the pinion or halfshafts would go first.

i've done that to a diff before but on mine the bits got stuck onon the crown wheel and buggered it, the reason they blow like that is when one one wheel spins those gear are also spinning and if kept up for long enough the oil gets burnt off and the gear seizes to the shaft and then blows up, you should see the groves on the inside of the gears
