richie_stix Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 hi there, has anyone actualy seen a mk3 capri with only two lamps as opposed to the standard four? thinkin bout doin this when i give my cappa a resto in the summer, but would like to see what it looks like in the metal? have seen one or two photoshop jobies but they looked bit naff cos the photoshopping was a bit naf... any pics?
RFChris Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 What? Like a MK2? If that what you mean then you would have no option but to buy the grille, lights, bonnet and wings from a MK2...which would be pretty damn expensive. Other than that, I'm afraid i don;t know what you mean. Chris
richie_stix Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 i mean like you get mk1&2 golfs, some have two lamps and some have four? basicly, just to muscle up the capri a bit... like an american plymouth or charger?

lee_capri Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 sorry to throw a spanner in the work,s but you would have no main beam, and not only that have you tryed driven with just two headliht's has most capri's ive had even back in the day you needed to get the light's on soon has on country road's,and if you put the main beam light's were the standed driven one's are you will dazzel ever-one and then you will have no side light's,standed golf light's are two bit to fit capri has they are 7inch's round,il be intressted to see how this turn's out, because the thing most people like is the headlight's on the capri has it make's it look more sporty, hence y lot's of mk2's had the twinlight's fitted back in the 80's that was one of the first mod's we used to do with a mk2

lee_capri Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 you no i leave them on in the dark and have to drive with main beam on and still cant see s**t
hotrodholty Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 you no i leave them on in the dark and have to drive with main beam on and still cant see s**t hinge em to the bonnet and tie some string to em running to inside the car, roll back head lights like an old yank but with a blue peter style twist
richie_stix Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 so, surely the mk1 scorts only had two lights and they managed alright? plus I'm sure there was a version of the mk1 fezza that had only two roundlights? just wana do somehting different, personally think it would look with a custom extra wide grill... mean the rat out abit?
FlashCadillac Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i dont really understanf what your wanting to do... if your wanting a mk3 with one big headlight... then its a mk2 like chris said??
hotrodholty Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 so, surely the mk1 scorts only had two lights and they managed alright?plus I'm sure there was a version of the mk1 fezza that had only two roundlights? just wana do somehting different, personally think it would look with a custom extra wide grill... mean the rat out abit? like a said mate id go for a mk2 escort grill with h4 headlights, cant be that far out size wise surely or maybe try mk2 golf/jetta. iv got h4s on my mk1 escy and there better than any other car iv had oh and pm no probs
hotrodholty Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i dont really understanf what your wanting to do... if your wanting a mk3 with one big headlight... then its a mk2 like chris said?? i think he wants single round lights like an escy
richie_stix Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 yeah, hotrodholty is right... just like a mk1 eksy! not sure bout the mk1 grill tho, think its too tall and to thin... but gotta be worth investigating! just outta interest, the people answering this post.... what do you drive?
crapichris Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 don't go there. As an owner of a Mk1 and Mk3 Capri I can only agree with Chris. If you think the lights are crap on a Mk3 quad light set up try a Mk1!!! Of course it's your car and you do what you want but I suspect you will back on the forum in several months asking for anyone with spare quad lights. I have gone as far as to beef up my MK3 quad lights with uprated bulbs - now I can see the chap with the red flag. Were you aware that the grill on the MK3 was designed to deflect air over the car and not thru the radiator above 40mph and thereby reduce the drag factor? So where does that leave all you MK3 boys with MK2 grills?
RFChris Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 I'll be intrigued to see the results. just outta interest, the people answering this post.... what do you drive? Me, well... I own a 1976 MK2 Capri 3.0S And my 'company cars' come in the form of a MK1 Cortina 1500GT Four door in lotus colours (no pic though) and a 1975 MK1 Escort with 300bhp Cossy YB (the one in my sig) Chris
hotrodholty Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 yeah, hotrodholty is right... just like a mk1 eksy!not sure bout the mk1 grill tho, think its too tall and to thin... but gotta be worth investigating! just outta interest, the people answering this post.... what do you drive? its your motor mate go for it, you wanna go to a couple of scrap yards, you'll be surprised what might catch your eye and do the job. loads of vw's, fords, volvos, and bmw's had single head lights, plus from a scrappy it wont cost you much to experiment
FlashCadillac Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 mk1 capri on round headlight??? in that really wide grill..... bare with me a min wilst i photoshop this and make my mind up

richie_stix Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 yes chris mate, the 3ltr in JPS colours is f'in sweet and the bright orange scort is super duper sweet! and the photoshopped pic is the style i want.... and to answer who ever said, where does that leave all the mk3 boys with mk3 grills, the answer is 'with a cooler engine'! ha aint got a mk2 grill, made a custom one myself but its pretty much the same! I'm going to knock up my own version on photoshop when i get back to my own computer... but how the fook do you upload em in this forum? beats me, but i'm probably bein thick!
FlashCadillac Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i realise now i shouldnt have done it on a lazer ever thought of what chavy did to the rs camaro.... a cover that slid over the lights to cover them during the day.... then the slid back at night??? im going back to photoshop with the lazer
