Trying to suss which bolts to stick where and the manual says " Bolt Hex head 1/4" - 20 x 5/8" "

I have a ruler with old fashioned inch things on but not sure what to measure from those dimensions. Explain plz. :D:mrgreen:

Easy, 1/4" refers to the dia of the bolt, 20, Refers to the Threads per Inch [TPI] and the 5/8" refers to length of bolt.

Which to the layman is a 1/4" UNC hex headed bolt 5/8ths of an inch long.

Well I could have made it more complicated by stating the thread is the same as BSW [british Standard Whitworth], but the thread angle is different, cant remember exactly how different, I think its 2degs different, but up to 7/16ths BSW and UNC are almost identical and as such are hard to tell apart without gauges, above that the TPI is different,

Anothher little snippet of info, Most metric Nyloc self locking nuts have Dark blue or Black inserts, where the Imperial nuts are Normally white or yellow :D
