No it doesn't do anything for me either. I mebbe teaching you to suck eggs (soz) but it was originally done to reduce the glare into the rally drivers eyes.

Yeah I was just telling the missus that when she asked why it was black. To me it looks like a car with a panel that the owner can't afford to get colour matched. Each to thier own tho!

Im going for the same look on my mk2, looks like me and twinkle think alike. Carbon fibre bonnets - space age tecnology on a bit of retro chic.
