boXXer Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 What are the options for these, apart from aftermarket items, which seem to last 2 weeks! Someone was telling me about pinto diesel starters. Are they any better? Cheers!
Baz. Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 mike, get a Brise motorsport starter, not cheep but i have never had a problem
Toby Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 mike, get a Brise motorsport starter, not cheep but i have never had a problem Very interesting I've had 5 or so!! I guess some engines put out different harmonics to others. To be fair my current one hasn't missed a beat - and I must have used it 20 or 30 times!
boXXer Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 iv'e heard nothing but bad feedback about Brise starters.
boXXer Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 baz, forgot to say i use it every day too, so that dont help much
Baz. Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 i must have a one off i now x sport racing use them to turn over there monster V8's in their brit cars, dont think they have a problem either, other option is to mod your bellhousing, and fit a cozzy starter
marky4 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 i've got a Brise starter though only been in car a week has fired up fine every day my old starter was also a Brise ( just found the receit ) and it was 5 years old when it died
Admin Mk2Jo Posted January 12, 2008 Admin Report Posted January 12, 2008 I've got 2.1 high comp pinto and I have a diesel battery and H & H high torque starter which works well
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 There's no opitions , 24v starting works and the so-called 12v high torque geared starters are overpriced shite . They only work if your high compression engine isn't really high compression or you don't start the car much (circuit race car etc that lives on a trailer ) .
MK2Ed Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Interesting also what u'd class as 'high compression' ??
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Interesting also what u'd class as 'high compression' ?? When a standard starter can't turn it over any faster than you can with a spanner !!!!!!!!
w p e Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 LEAVE THE TRAILERS OUT OF THIS ONE GAZ OR ME AND YOU WILL DANCE
BIG G Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 My new engine will be 11:1 am i going to have trouble
kevmk2 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Cambridge motorsport starters are supposed to be good,Brett who owns a signal amber mk2 mex and does a shit load of track days a year has one on his 2.2 pinto and its never let him down
kevmk2 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 http://www.cambridgemotorsport.com/prod ... oductType/
kevmk2 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Ickys going to put one in his HT engine when he gets it back on the road. He has had cossie 4x4 starter motors on modded bellhousings and they seem to rattle their way loose even with nuts on the back of the bolts, either that or a lug breaks off the starter motor Then he has got through two gear reduction starter motors also. So he is going to try the cambridge ones next,Brett has had his one in his mk2 for about 2 or 3 years now apparently.
boXXer Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 my H&H hasnt packed up, but just doesnt mate with the ring gear properly. so we will see when its all meshed up properly.
Retromotorsport Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 The mesh is what i think is wrong with Ickiys .. to brake a lug its got to be Its what Steve at S&C has found with a lot of these .. either to far out and zinging or to far in and flexing the flywheel ...
Toby Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 The mesh is what i think is wrong with Ickiys .. to brake a lug its got to be Its what Steve at S&C has found with a lot of these .. either to far out and zinging or to far in and flexing the flywheel ... The mesh was the problem with mine, I wonder if they're so well made that there is no flex and wobble in the pinion to allow for the "Ford" tolerances. I am sure various engines do put out different harmonic vibrations which is why some people have no problems and other do. I looked at a diesel fiesta starter recently and I see ford have put a bracket on the rear of the starter too, this is the sort of thinking the Peco used to do on exhaust manifolds certainly stopped them falling appart too. I think I have heard good rumours about the Cambridge ones
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 just face it chaps , they're foooooooking overpriced shiiiiiiiiiiiiite
boXXer Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 did you happen to try mine this morning gary?
