Bought this about 2 weeks ago, but didn't have a camera to upload pics!

Got it from Madhorse Classics in Llangollen, if anyone knows 'em..

It's a J Reg (1971) 1100 in a unfortunate shade of garnet (with matching interior :dope: )

It's totally original (including old skool radio, original jack, etc etc.)

Damned rusty in places though! The driver/passenger footwells have had it, and both rear arches have small "ventilation holes" in 'em, but other than that it seems pretty damned solid!

Proper made up I am! Now to strip it, get it welded and painted, them rebuild it with a lukewarm 1600 x-flow on a budget of around 25p

Daft question 1:

see that welding on the suspension topmounts? Surely they should have been seam welded?

Should I cut them off and re-do them properly?

They're both exactly the same, surely these don't come from Ford like that?!

Awaiting correction..

You're saying they're spot-welded from new?

'Cause mine are spot welded.. Was just hoping they're not the doing of a previous owner..

Here's the other one..

Not properly spot welded :D that is just blobs of pigeon sh!t probably done by previous owner or dodgy garage for an MOT repair when they weren't so strict. But you can get top plates easy enough

I very much doubt they would have come from ford like that as i don't think your model would have had those fitted i think they only came standard on the type 49s but i am not 100%

Nope thats just a shocking repair job mate. Rip them off and start again Stevie wonder could of done better than that. Iv heard nothing but bad reports about Madhorse. A mate rang up about a mk2 mex he had advertised as MINT. he travelled 200 miles to see it and the C pillar had rotted from the quarter window round to the back window both sides

The joys of an old Ford, is that you will expect a bit of welding :lol::lol::lol:

too bloody right mate..

I was thinking getting it painted a metallic silver type colour..

But then I heard metallic colours would be too much aggro for a newbie painter like myself..

What's the hardest/easiest colour by the way?

I like the colour, bit unsual but a good sleeper colour, you could even paint the roof silver in a broadspeed styleé. 8)

Yeah they are repair plates, as 'escort new boy' says. Best to take them off and repair the inner wing properly.

You got yourself a nice project car there. Good luck with it!

Ditto re: madhorse! I travelled from London to buy a Mk1 Cortina GT that he described as a good solid car that I could drive back to London with no worries. When I got there it was rotten, engine chucking out blue smoke, handbrake cable dragging on the ground, 3 bald tyres and one crossply! I wouldnt have driven it to the end of the road. Told him where he could stick it. £100 train fares down the drain.

Also my mate was selling his 100% genuine Lemans green Mk1 Mex. "Madhorse Mark "came down from Wales to Essex with a trailor and tried to buy it for next to nothing as he claimed it wasnt a genuine Mexico. Needless to say my mate told him where to go so on that occasion it was him who wasted his time and money.

Back on topic tho! Good luck with the Escort, colour could look quite good, especially with the silver roof (or gold?) as already mentioned.
