bending

stainless steel tubing....whats the best way i got a 7ft tube 2 inch bore and few other lengths to make a complete exhaust system up

 

i been offered to have one made for my b'day pressie but i wouldnt want my folks spending £500 on a system for me...so whats the best way to get it bent, was thinking of getting a pipe bender but not to sure if i can get one which will be up to the job, have you made your own and what did u do

Depending on what angles of bend you need you might get away with doing it empty........but I doubt it.

You will need

oxy & propane (or acetylene if no propane)

sand from B & Q. Get dry sand but not the very fine block paving sand.

Rags or block of wood that has been pre-soaked in a bucket of water for 24hrs

Vice

Gloves

Block/bung one end of the tube with some of the rags or preferably the wood.

Fill the tube with the sand and every few minutes "tamp down" to get the air out and keep topping up with sand. When your happy that the tube is filled and there are no air pockets left, block the free end with rags/wood and your ready for bending

When your bending St St like this you will need to go for longer bend radii rather than the nice tight bends done on a machine or an expert. Warm an area say "8-10" long and get red hot (literally) all over that area. When its hot enough apply pressure in the area you want to go in. This will be hard as what your trying to bend is essentially a 2" solid bar so you will need another pair of hands to give you a lift.

 

Or alternatively, throw the tube you have in the skip, send me your exhaust and I will replicate the tubes for you, in St St if you want. You will have to supply the boxes though.

Not sure of costs but it will be pounds rather than hundreds of pounds and the majority you will pay will go towards the up-keep of OSF

i wasnt saying you were going to rip me off and didnt even cross my mind just trying to know on the average cost so i know what sort of funds i need to save

 

has i always save before spending money, then dont have the worry of being skint.....the way i like it

 

 

only problem i see is sending the exhaust to you has ive had problems sending big bits before and they try and rip you off to send it
