RFChris Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 ...apart from "it's an estate" of course. I know i should probably know this, but is there any truth the talk of differences between the front panels of a mk1 estate and saloon? I can't imagine the ford would have spent the money to have them be different TBH. Chris
over_head_cam Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 All the same (apart from the estatey bit ) Allegedly there is a tiny difference in the closure panel between the rear of the front wing and the 'a' post, but this is nothing.
emu Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 You cant get a fridge/freezer in a saloon Having said that, mum and dad tell me that when they first lived together they moved everything in dads mk1 escort
PaulAshman Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 When i repaired my mk2 estate i was told by numerous people that the front wings are a different size on an estate/van as opposed to a saloon?!
Mr.Sumo Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 As far as i am aware , the front wings . front panel , slam panel , bonnet are all standard mk1 Escort . The doors i believe fit a van as well . There is approx a 4"-6" difference in the length of the car ...i know this cos the Ashley system to go on mine needs lengthening to fit under the car and it doesn"t fit under the boot because the fuel tank sits under the Estate , not in the boot like a saloon . Hope that helps Chris
Noodles Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 The estate wings are to their own they sawge different to the saloons and the wing tops are narrower
nugget Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 Can you fit saloon wing's to a van/estate then? as i've seen mexico wing's on estate's before?
sparkycapri Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 basically all the mk1 panels are the same saloon/est/van. ford being ford tight arses when they brought out the mk2 escort all they did to the estate/van was put a mk2 grill & headlights on it (and dash of course). so they changed the front of the wings and narrowed the tops so they could fit a mk2 bonnet which is wider than a mk1. saves money on presses etc. PS for example have you ever compared the back end of an escort mk1/2 van and a anglia van!!
escortmad79 Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 The estate wings are to their own they sawge different to the saloons and the wing tops are narrower Swage lines are lower on Mk2 vans & estates only
