smiffy Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Was thinking of getting an emerald ecu for my zetec-anyone using one and what are they like ?
4parajon Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Dave Walker of Emerald has one of the best reputations in the industry, he knows his onions. Although I dont use his products.
Dom Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 My brother's got one in his 24v cossie capri and it's an awesome piece of kit, highly recommended chap
zetecmk2 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 yeah, i use one. anything you're not sure of, phone them and they stop work and talk until you understand mine got wet (my fault) and needed re-programming, they did it for free, just charged postage!!! brilliant customer service
V8ian Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 I have one too, M3dk, no problems with it at all, in fact its going ack for an upgrade so I can a better ign system, £50 for quite a major revamp, im not complaining, One of the good things is Dave will put the car on the rollers for £250 and if it takes all day its still the same price, but I would think if you are using a Zetec there would be a fairly close map to suit your needs allready made.
zetecmk2 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 yeah, mine goes great on the base map, id just like a little bit more economy !!!!!(ive tried not flooring it, still drinks loads so might as well boot it) lets face it; when i get it mapped, it wont go any worse!!!
V8ian Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 deffo worth getting it mapped, my engine found 40 hp and nearly 40 ft lbs of torque for the sake of a drive up to Norfolk, I van even return 33mpg on a run as well, not bad for a 4ltr V8
boXXer Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 im just about to buy a complete K3 kit from them this week. I think its easily the best VFM.
Dom Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 I think its easily the best VFM Deffo matey. Also if there's a feature that the ECU can't handle but it needs to, they re-write the software so it can.
oldbus Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Just reading this thread reminds me that there is a lot of stuff out there that i haven´t got a bloody clue about...basically anything to do with electrics... I´ll hopefully be running a 24V in the van from this summer on... What would i gain by running a Emerald ECU? Is it worth doing on an otherwise standard engine? What sort of costs would i be looking at? Cheers, Dave

You would only need Emeralds handiwork after fairly lengthy and wallet emptying engine work
oldbus Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Cheers Jon, Won´t be happening on the van, enough is enough, but the Capri is a different story
smiffy Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 Sounds like it'll be money well spent
