Thanks for the replies guys, would it be difficult to go the Irs on a mk1 escort?

The S,erra rear suspension is designed for a taxi ... it carrys 5 people and their luggage, it has to be comfy and durable and be able to fit under the arses of Harry, Phylis and their kids when going on their hols

The major trouble with the rear is the camber change , look at the 3drs with 500 horse at the pod .. slow aint they ,.. the car squats and the tyres try to kiss each other, which means your trying to accelerate on the inside edge, little more than a pushbikes contact patch

Or look at the thunderloons... a certain car in there had a good engine ..ran mid pack, fitted it with a 9" and 6 link, went to the front .. thats proof

or the look at another recent flop.. McCraes (rip) red thing .. had a shocking ammount of camber change and , so rumour has it, was beaten at sweet lamb with him driving an identical car but fitted with a normal 6 link. Anyone see it set the stages alight ..?? see it beat anything other than a wallet ??

the only IRS worth considering from an geometry and engineering point is a double wishbone set up ... theres a reason why all Formuls and supercars use these setups ..they work

As for 4 wheel drive ..... what are you a farmer, unless your doing gravel/forresty stages leave the 4WD to the JCB's

Audi only won the BTCC because they where allowed to run lighter than the FWD cars and those were lighter than the RWD .. (theres a clue there) then the Mondeos won with a 4WD car ... with an empty front diff !!!! light but RWD only ..

if you want one of the best setup's for our escort (money no object lol) go on turbosport and sind the tuscan/escort its awesome 8)

there was also a mk2 escort featured in retro ford that was using IRS (based on BMW in beleive) and there a couple of rally escorts that use IRS, but as has been said before - its not much of a gain for the amount of money it costs

As with any suspension front or rear, what you fit comes down to what your going to use the car for ! not much point 4 linking it to drive to the odd show ??

Ok say you want something thats rapid handles, will go sideways when required ( On a private road of course ) And will effectivley put down power of say a cossie lump in the future. Whats your best route?

Forgive me for being blunt but, isn't having the live axle part of the fun in the first place?

It's a signature component of owning an OSF and making it IRS is just a waste. You might as well buy a bmw or something that already has it??

Live axle etc is part of the osf charm surely?? :?

Ricky's car has some problems with that rear .. its toeing in an out, think we traced the problem though, but its still touch and go wether it goes back to be 6 linked
