think its about 53bhp.

i know the 1300gt is 57bhp...

add a k&n, retune it with some bigger jets and a nice free flowing exhaust and you could see around 64bhp.

mine measured 62bhp @5000rpm with only a k&n and a good old retune by bogg brothers

sorry to take you off the subject a bit but whats the 1977 mk2 ghia 1.6

771m hp??

thanks shaun, any simple mods to kick it up??

It should be about 78bhp? I think a GT is about 87bhp. Dont qoute me to that though.

A filter and a 4 branch manifold should add a few horse powas. Get a twin choke on it or 40's. Take your fan off and fit an elecky one. After that you have to start taking stuff apart like heads and cams etc.

Its 84BHP @ 5500RPM standard mate looked it up on a disc my dad uses for work.

it will have a twin choke weber as standard you can put a KnN filter on it and maybe a nice set of 40's to get the power up a bit and a nice straight through system which would free up some horses you could also get it ported and polished there are so many options to be honest mate :ykt:

at uni they have formula ford racing cars running 1600 cross flows that are gt spec and are lightened slightly and balanced running a standard twin choke carb and they are producing 110 horse power

where the fook have the extra 20 odd ponies come from compared to what they are standard

Youd be surprised what you can make from a 'standard' engine.

With the engines being produced to low standards due to high numbers, you only have to change a few things to 'tighten it up a bit'. Especially if you can add more fuel and air.

Ive heard of Toyota 4age's making 170bhp on an engine rated 130bhp using standard parts.

yeah it's got twin choke webber, an think its had some port an polish action..

shouldn't the ghia's have 1-4 too, pretty sure mine is..

You could find it's got less power if it's not set up, I had a twin choke on an a 1600 CF which I swapped to twin 40's (it had a cam and mild head work). To a marker it was over 10mph down with the 40's. Once it was re-jetted correctly it was 5 mph faster. You'll be suprised what a decent set up can gain you.

a good RR tune will do wonders for even a standard engine.

i took mine to bogg brothers for setting up and it was crap running. slower than standard and ran like shit.

new jets and a good tuning later and it was a lot lot better!!!!

shaun the 1.6 ghia had a gt head, twin choke weber, better cam and a 4-2-1 manifold. not bad but the exhausts a bugger to get a replacement for when it goes. i found it easier to replace the manifold with a PLR one and it was cheaper
