russ105e Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Been thinking about wrapping my manifold but have heard stories about the manifold cracking after a short period of time.Any views if its worth doing especially on a pre-crossflow with the carbs above the manifold ? Any particular make to go for as they seem to vary greatly in price on flea-bay
Mk 1 Mark Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Had mine wrapped on my cortina for 3 years...Just re wrapped it and its fine... Looks good and does the job..

Durham Fiesta Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 a lot of companies won't honour any warrenty or guarentee if you wrap a manifold. Heard a few problems with ashley manifold cracking if they are wrapped
Stu_B Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 I'm thinking of wrapping mine on my pre-crossflow. It's a 1500gt manifold. Any info on pro's & con's would be great
MK2Ed Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 I like the hard burnt look... Also had a go at wrapping one once and lost patience after about.............................. 30 seconds
Airbag Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 iv heard stories of moisture getting trapped and rotting them away... might just be an urban legend though Surely the heat from the manifold will evaporate any trapped moisture??
Noodles Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 I did it once but it went all crappy so i wrapped the bits near it that would get hot
Stu_B Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 That's what I thought about... I don't need to wrap the whole manifold, just the first foot or so where it links with the inlet manifold?!

Fiesta Steve Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 The following piece of information may or may not be factual You decide The temperature increase in the wrapped pipe is enough to burn the carbon out of the steel, leaving it very brittle and can crack easily. Once in this condition it can't be welded any sense either.
lee_capri Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 ive got both side's done on the cappa v8 have alway's had it done look's

BIG G Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 i wrapped a good quality janspeed manifold on my old rs2000 and after about six months the steel went like glass and went all crazed and black as the carbon had drawn right out couldnt welld it as no carbon IE the steel had hardened.
Tom Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 i bought Kj's old manifold off of him, unwrapped it, welded it twice and re wrapped it without any problems
Fiesta Steve Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 i bought Kj's old manifold off of him, unwrapped it, welded it twice and re wrapped it without any problems Why did it need welding
