you will need a bucket, vinager, batt caharger, and strip of metal

take most of the crap stuff off has much has you can first

fill bucket with vinager

then stick the metal items in the vinager and if i recall correctly you stick the neg side of the batt charger to the item that you want to clean

then put a strip of metal down the side of the bucket so its in the vinager and connect the positive to the strip of metal...make sure the two dont touch each other

then switch on the charger and leave for 24hrs and occasionally after a couple of hrs rub the item down to take the bits that have come lose

once finished rince the item under water and then clean off with wire brush etc

thats it.....its a reversal order of doing eletro plating ,so the rust is drawn away from the item and towards the strip of metal

Im going to be painting my suspension, back axel etc next week, what paint should i use, is hamerite ok for this, or is there something better?

Thanks Paul.

Use rustoleum, it's a much better product than hammerite and can be thinned with white spirit

Any good decorating shop should have it

i started to look up electroplating to start of with ...then my search got more and more involved until i had seen a few sites and had a good read, you can use other stuff has well, i decided to use vinager in the end has its a acid that can easily be brought from a supermarket etc

vinegar can be used for many other things and their is loads of other stuff that can be used which will do jobs that you would have never thought of before...cant find the page with the list but

here is a couple sites that i had bookmarked when i was searching

http://www.instructables.com/id/Electro ... aka-Magic/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_cell

http://www.chip.com/buick/techtips/rustremoval.html

their are more out their you just need to search for them
