Right Hamsters, used to show em as a kid.

They are solitary rodents, so even male and female shouldn't be kept together. They fight.

The female comes into season every 4 days, until she gets pregnant

They have the shortest pregnancy at 21 days

At 4 weeks the females can breed.

For this reason they are not allowed as pets in some countries, including some states in America. The other reason is they don't just eat food, they store it (they carry it in cheek pouches), so a few of em can empty a corn field quite quickly!

I stopped keeping Hamsters when we got a Jack Russell  !

I had loads of them when I was a kid. Bought a robrofski hamster last year called boris the sneaky f*cking russain. Looked in its cage one day cos we hadnt seen it that day, and it was half eaten and full of maggots.

We got a proper syrian hamster now and its called Loose Mix

Proper big hamsters will kill each other, but the russian and chinese ones are fine to be kept together

When i was about 5 my parents bought me a mouse which i named Mickey (original I know  ) About a week or so later I found these pink things in the cage and called for my Mum who shouted at me for putting sweeties into Mickey's cage. Turned out Mickey was actually Minnie and she had had 8 babies

I looked after two gerbils for school once, over Christmas. I was told they were 2 females. Imagine my panic when I thought somebody had put bits of pink plasticine in the cage...... Turned out they were a breeding pair

I remember Nettles bringing home gerbils from school to be looked after during a holiday. Bastard things upped and died out of spite. Spent ages finding replacements. Took them in after the holiday and teacher said he'd hoped they would have died, he was fed up with them!!!!
