johnny_h Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I have to keep adjusting the slave cylinder adjuster nut and it's doing my head in. When I set it the way the haynes manual recomends "with 1/16th play between the nut and release arm" it won't even entertain getting in gear so I close the gap up and turn the nut a few turns and it's fine until I have been driving a while then it starts to slip. So I wind the nut back to the recomended gap and it is ok again. This morning I went to drive off and couldn't get it in gear again.
V8ian Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I assume you have bled the system????, I would be thinking the clutch is on its way out as well, as you seem to be taking up adjustment constantly, the next question is have you got all the parts matching, a mismatch of parts can give you problems,
johnny_h Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 It's a brand new clutch. The sytem is bled. I spent a small fortune buying the correct D-clip from lotus cortina spares to make sure I had the right parts. In summary it seems when the engine is cold it wont go into gear but when its hot it does.
Stu_B Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 How much are they as that's what I've been recommended for my rocket box to pre crossflow?
andypipe Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Prices from Burtons https://www.burtonpower.com/dets_produc ... 14&PSet=98
johnny_h Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 Yeah rally design do them too. My mate Russ has one fitted to his cortina. Money's a big part of this equation though Andy so I'd rather find the solution.
john_3.0s Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 the original system should work just fine. what size master cylinder do you have? a size or so too small wont release the slave far enough and maybe giving you problems engaging gears
johnny_h Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 It's all original mex gear. Nothings been changed.
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 My old mexicos were the same mate , defo bin the external slave set up and get an internal one from Retroford in Corby
over_head_cam Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I've seen a Zetec Fiesta concentric one used before, they had a spacer machined up at a local engineers and it worked really well
johnny_h Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 I bled it again tonight and the fluid that came out was fookin black.
john_3.0s Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 dont sound good mate lol! was it working before and only just packed up?
johnny_h Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 No mate it's been like it for ages. I bought a new clutch because I assumed the old one was dead but when I took it out there was still life left in it.
72mk1escort Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I only know about cable clutches really and don't really understand hydraulic clutches although i am pretty sure you will still have a separate place for your gearbox oil the same as my gearbox will have. If so then maybe try checking and filling up the gearbox oil if it needs it. Probably not the problem but worth a go
