ZetecVan 2.0 Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I'm with the halifax. I've just been stiffed for £175 worth of charges for going over my overdraft for a few days I've had enough of them. I'm changing to Alliance & Leicester.

mk3cokebottle Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 step 1 [Your address] [Your address] [Your address] [Your phone number] [Date] [Name and address of bank] Dear Sir or Madam, Ref: Account number: [your account number] Please send me all information that your company holds relating to my entire account history with your organisation. Please include details of all transactions, and a copy of the original contract by which this account is/was governed including all amendments made to the contract terms since opening the account. I would also like a schedule of all charges & interest applied to my account(s) including details of any instances that required manual intervention. Please include a copy of the original contract by which this account is/was governed including all amendments made to the contract terms since opening the account. I understand that under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998, you are obliged to keep data on file for 6 years so I expect to receive at least 6 years data. However, if you hold data beyond 6 years, under the above act, you must supply it on demand. I look forward to your response. Yours faithfully, [Your signature]
mk3cokebottle Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 then i sent this one when i got the reply [Your address] [Your address] [Your address] [Your phone number] [Date] [Name and address of bank] Dear Sir or Madam, Ref: Account number: [your account number] I would like to request a refund of all the default charges that have been applied to my account. Under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 charges must reflect administration costs and cannot be punitive. I believe that the following [insert details of charges] are unlawful as they do not reflect the true cost of going into an unauthorised overdraft. You have taken [insert charges amount here] from me, plus [insert overdraft interest amount here] overdraft interest and I would like to request repayment of this [insert total sum] total sum. I also ask you to ensure any default notices entered against my credit record are removed entirely. Please repay this money in full and remove any default notices within 14 days. If this is not done, I will begin a claim against you for the full amount, plus interest and my costs. Yours faithfully, [Your signature]

Admin Vista Posted May 15, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 15, 2008 Never had any problem with my bank. Every time they've charged me what I consider to be an unreasonable fee, I've rung them up and politely pointed out that as I have a mortgage and a credit card with them they make plenty of profit out of me already. The veiled threat being that I'll move them elsewhere and on every occasion they have agreed "just this once" to refund the charges.

What he said ^^^^^ I'm with Barclays and they have refunded the last two charges when I called to complain.
Jubfab Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 blooming eck Mike - thats a bit of a shi**er to say the least. Get swapped good and quick ...
NHR115 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 I used to work for HBOS and they really are a bunch of con artists. I paid off a loan early when i left the company and they tried to send me to court saying i hadn't paid it. I had to investigate the whole thing myself and found the money was in a holding account. I didn't even get a bleeding apology!!! Natwest have been a fantastic bank for me though
MK5 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Halifax charged me £39 for bouncing a direct debit which took me £22 overdrawn, for which they charged me another £39!! I have already opened another account and I am going down the route of claiming back my charges www.moneysavingexpert.com is the place to check out!!
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 Halifax charged me £39 for bouncing a direct debit which took me £22 overdrawn, for which they charged me another £39!! Exactly the reason why I'm leaving. They used to charge £12 for going overdrawn. Talking to my sister who works there, and she said when they changed to a bank they looked at what other banks charged, and decided to charge the same. I've just done some sums, and I reckon if I move bank, house insurance, mortgage and other bits and pieces I can save £200-£250 a month. Got an account approved with Alliance & Leicester. Going to be moving all my direct debits over to them. Nationwide look to be giving the home insrance deals, so that's going to them. They may get my mortgage too. So, Thank you Halifax for 13 years of business, but if you're going to stitch me up for every little thing, have this on the house
