danny69 Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 I like these pratical demos of how well stuff works, so good on you for doing such tests. Keep them coming But I thought the test was a little harsh on the Capri 2.8 vents, afterall not only were they already well used but it sounds like you needed a bias valve if the rears were locking first. You will never get maximum braking effort if the rears are locking up before the fronts. I have seen some old road tests from back in the seventies on 3.0 litre Capris and they managed stopping distances and g-forces much better than the ones you got from the Escort. I still appreciate the feature though despite the above
danny69 Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Posted June 25, 2008 Doesn`t anyone from Retro Ford look at this forum anymore? Some kind of acknowledgement would be nice, otherwise a cynic might say that as you don`t have an answer you were just plugging a brake upgrade that you were given cheap or free as an advert for the manufacturer. If the lack of reply is simply that you don`t have the time then perhaps this forum is no longer worthwhile.?
bortaf Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 TBH what got me was the fact they spent all that money to get just under a 1G stopping force when a standard cortina/capri could pull that when new, surely making sure the standard system was in top condition would be cheaper that all that extra new stuff to acheave the same results Never ceases to amaze me what people will spend on upgrades instead of just fixing whats there already I guess we anoracs spend too much time reading old road tests

I had nothing to do with that feature, so I'm afraid Morley is the only one who can help you. If it matters that much may i suggest you email him at as at the minute neither of us have a lot fo time for forums. Our email is our first line of contact, not OSF. We (me especially) are trying to get our priorites in order and sort some things out, so I'm sorry if we're not on here much. Like I said, drop him an email and i'm sure he'll be happy to answer you. Cheers, Chris (NB, we could have just upped the stock brakes, but we've got a lot more planned for the Escort and belive me, stock stuff won't cut it )
danny69 Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Posted June 25, 2008 Thanks for the response Chris. I appreciate that the upgrade is appropriate if you are running big power but I was just concerned by the misleading nature of the article in saying how poor the stock brakes were. I would hate for someone to spend £800 on brakes hoping to stop 100 foot sooner at 70 mph when the reality is that they may well not see that kind of improvement if their current set up was already in good order. I won`t e-mail Ben directly as it doesn`t matter "that much" on this occasion as I won`t be splashing out on brakes anytime soon. Cheers Danny
