slappy Posted June 19, 2008 Author Report Posted June 19, 2008 Hi Thin Lizzy, I don't think I have ever been that far north, unless someone stole it for the weekend, it was at classic ford, thanks Russ nice to see your car in cf doing it's bit for pre crossflows, hopefully we will see what a corsair can run the 1/4 in soon can't wait to take it out tonight.
4parajon Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Looks very nice mate Must be honest and say that up untill RF did a recent cover and feature on a cossie powered one I pretty much ignored them, but yours looks v nice

lotusless Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 good luck with the engine, luv your corsair too
slappy Posted June 19, 2008 Author Report Posted June 19, 2008 cheers guys, got to keep pushing the old corsairs, they might even get popular one day, see if I can,t get some good time's in, I wolud be happy with running a 15 sec as the cars so heavy but when it goes in the green two door should be a lot lighter stripped out and caged 2000e box five link ect.
slappy Posted June 19, 2008 Author Report Posted June 19, 2008 Hi 5hane, the spec is if I can remember Throbnozel racing engine Pre cross head mk2 tina 1660 bottom end reground crank arp bolted flat top pistons decked baffeled sump ported head steel lotus valves steel rocker shaft and posts duplex timing gear high preasure oil pump aldon dist cat cam I think it was a 346 ap racing clutch approx 125 bhp ( not proven yet ) 11.38.1 compresion ratio lotus cortina dcoe31 fourtys, oh and it will rev to 7 - 7 1/2, I could go on but I would be here all day.
corsair dean Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 looking good there matey! go on the corsairs!!!!!
Arfur Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Tidy. Mind you Dave, those rims looked sooo much better on the blue one.
Toby Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Lovely mate, cant beat the bark of 40's on a pre-cross!! I never knew what those holes in the inlet manifolds were for untill now!! (linkage) Very period. Should run a comfortable 15 I would have thought. Beautiful bit of kit
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 I Have had dozens of cortinas, & corsairs, over the years, but not for twenty years or more, & seeing your car reminds me of what a lovely car the corsair really is, I`m sorry to those who have 4 door models, but I prefer the 2 door model myself, being that I`m a big old boy.. Nice one mate , Love it.. Jeff Harris..
Contract Man Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Get in there Dave and big up the corsairs Is it running any better now, with the 40s and a few miles under the belt.
slappy Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 Cheers guy what can I say, Dean very happy with the fourty's bit flat until 2 1/2 then it goes, prob needs a rolling road setup, Jeff coming from one of the ford daddys thats a real nice compelment, shame more people aren't into then, then that would be less for me, and as for Toby king of pre crossflows thanks toby the linkage is not great at moment still more redesigning this is only the test bed for this engine it will be going in the green two door , passed your car at cf you had a carb balancer on the seat do you set them up before racing, and what do you set them at.
Toby Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Hello mate, the carb was in there because before I gave my engine a freshen up recently I was struggling to get it to run smoothly, normally I can stand side on to the carbs and hear them, but to answer your "do I balance them before a run" - no not really, they tend to stay fairly well balanced, although if you're struggling a bit with your linkage that may not help. As said on another post you need to make sure you have a throttle stop on the leading carb (the driven one). You need to spend a bit of time on the linkage, make sure you get WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and that it hits the stop, but not too hard etc....certainly easier with a modern cable set up no doubt I cant recommend a rolling road set up strongly enough, especially if it's all rocket science to you!! Glad you've stuck with the "right engine"
slappy Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 thanks Toby for the advice the balance between the carbs is fine it's just the linkages, just been out in it again, few different road types and it has got a real flat spot but, once you get out on a bit of dual carriage way she gets on song and at 4000 rpm its doing 70, will need to look at ratios when it goes in the other car but thats some way off,
