Hi. Been on an abandoned air strip this evenin to have some fun in my car. Im findin it really hard to get the back end out tho. Everytime i try, it just understeers or i end up driving round in circles nearly falling out my seat.

Ive seen other people doing it and they make it look really easy. Can anyone give me some tips on how to do it? Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Weld the diff up.

Turn into the bend, Dip the clutch, bring up the revs then sidestep the clutch pedal. Steer into the slide and control it on the throttle

on an open diff like mine, wait till it rains  , nearest round-a-bout, rolling approach, bags of revs, snap the clutch, hey presto........ Tiff Needel!

You need an LSD. full stop really, or a welded CWP.

Just get one, cos it will be the best £400 you've ever spent!!

Does'nt really matter how much power you have, if you havent got an LSD, its not much fun.

I only have a 1.3 but in the wet it really does hang and can be some good fun!....( not enough power to spin the wheels in the dry :( )

i think a new LSD now is about £500 sambo and i remember you told me this exact same advice.....thought it was a lot of money then decideed to go for it...paid my money got my LSD....never looked back  my drifting still sucks but im getting better

It can be done with an ATB but they are a lot of money. I went with a plate lsd because it was cheaper and a good one came up at the right time, right price....plate types are clunky on the road and can be a bit harsh...Ive heard ATB ones are very smooth.

plate is the best type of lsd but they snatch when they get hot but that is a good thing on corner's. mine just drift's with no droping of the clutch just enter the roundabout slow and just push the accelerator and back off to hold it there i did 5 times round a roundabout with my mate in the car and he was craping himself but it was all at 15 mph moving speed and at 3000rpm in second :mrgreen::mrgreen:

ok big edit lol : not this sat 18or 19 next month  sorry

rain is wicked for drifting lol, dads desil (sp) pickup drifts well no lsd

and with a mixer in the back :thumbsup:

whats the diffrence?

(drifting wise, i know ATB uses gears and LSD uses plates)

i've driven both and the plate handles better and is much more controlable and easier the atb lost handling on the road and just wasn't as easy. I've been sideways at over a ton with the plate and it didn't scare me but if it had been the atb i would have stopped it

you can get sideways with an open diff but it is quite difficult - when your mid slide the power can transfer from one wheel to the other and this can unbalance the car a lot a put you into the wall, roundabout, oncoming etc. .

but it is do able, go fast into the corner and turn late and hard giving a bit more throttle when you do. I don't like this dipping the clutch and raising the revs business as its not progressive.

Like others have said, its best to get a linited slip diff mate or one with welded up planetary gears. But be careful witht the latter as they tend to push you through corners giving you major understeer, even at slow speeds.

Stick with it though mate you'll get there

Thats why most people struggle to hold a slide. Kicking the clutch gets you sideways but sooner or later the car will grip or just spin. If you comer in wide and then tight with low revs in second and just boot it, it should be more then enough to get the arse end out. It works for me 6 out of 10 times with an open diff, itd work 10/10 if it was a slipper.

The biggest difference between a plate lsd and an atb, apart from the contruction and method of locking, is that the atb never locks 100% and you can still end up spinning just one wheel. If your using it as a daily, an atb is ok but if your serious about skidding get a plate. You can weld your planet gears but it can create bad oversteer and itll make your car hop at low speeds. It does wear tyres quicker but i think its negligable.

understeer bud, oversteer is all good

Shit..... Yes it makes for oversteer......... but only after youve sorted out 7 miles worth of understeer.

If you think £400 is alot of money.. Just think of it this way. Its money in the bank, your not likley to loose money when you want to sell it asuming its still in good condition.

Just go and buy a slippery diff and have some fun. After all thats what OSFs are about. :ykt::mrgreen:
