V8ian Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 Watch out for gearbox problems, I dont think there are many gearboxes left from either 16vs or Williams left,, normally the diff is held in position by a big fook off circlip, and the drive load is pushed against this circlip, afrer spirited driving this circlip can push outand the diff opens and you lose drive, they do clonk when they are on their way out, they can be reassembled but normall the circlip damages the groove and fooks the caseing, I have one or twice taken the cover off put the circlip back and welded it to the cover behind it, they dont pop out after that!!!!, If he buys it make sure he has a set of multidirectional fingers ambidexterous hands and fully rotational wrists, you can remove virtually NOTHING from the engine without taking it out of the car, , I think is a 15 hour book job to change the cam belt as the engine gearbox and subframe have to come out,, its the same to do the clutch, Beleive me NOTHING is simple, a real quart in a pint pot, watch out for Noisy gear box and noisy cam belt tensioners and idlers, engine out for most things, engine mounts break, exhausts manifolds snap, where steering colums u/js go thru the floor they break and are often welded up, PAS racks are an engine out as well, If its a sunroof car watch for creaseing from the corners to either the A or B posts, not that it means the car has been in a smash, but may well have been driven over a big pot hole or dropped off a kerb, at speed, But on a up sde, they are FUN to drive, and go like stink,
Rick Posted July 1, 2008 Author Report Posted July 1, 2008 i thought all clios were a pain in the arse to fix il deffo talk to him about that circlip though
bronze4door Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 they are an arse to fix but i ran mine with bent valves for about a month after the timin belt snapped and i just put a new one on and the sunroofs are prone to leakin
zetecmk2 Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 took me 7 hrs to change an alternator once!!!
