Basically, yes. In practice, no. There's megatons of pressure involved in the 'natural' crude oil production.

 

Rotting vegetation, animal carcuses etc. under immense pressure, left over centuries... The byproduct is the gas wot we use for cooking. They don't mention these bugs being able to do that.
