my mate just rung me up and asked if he should put the thermostat back in his pinto or not ,because he has bought a new engine which is not in the car yet but the bloke that had it built told him not to put a thermostat in the engine when he fit's it because of the restricted water flow with whats been done to the engine, but now he's wondering if he should should run without in his current engine even though its nowhere near the spec of the other engine but the big question is will the engine run to cold, rough speck of the engine is full steal bottom end, road cam, ported polished and skimmed head, twin 40's with bigger chokes,4 branch and group 1 alli rad

I run my pinto'd mk1 without one because its still on the stock 1100 radiator at the moment. It warms takes longer to warm up but when it does it runs perfect I have fitted a kenlowe just to make sure it stays cool in town. When I upgrade the radiator Im gonna go with the thermostat.

 

If your mates not got any problems with the current set up then theres no reason to change it

the engine was built with one, it came with one when new so you should fit one.

 

its a £3 part for heavens sake. its just being tight if you dont wanna fit one.

have always since 1992 run a 73degree thermostat from a crossflow,just cut the metal down with snip's. from the advice of roland haye's.(h/t racing) never had a problem.
