Admin Mk2Jo Posted September 11, 2006 Admin Report Posted September 11, 2006 So then guys and girls ...... who was your favourite Ford rally star or team from the 70's / 80's and why ? Your memories and opinions please ......
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Just everything to do with Group (Killer) B. I loved the cars & their drivers. You really had to have a case of "No Fear" to navigate stupidly fast cars through those stages!!! Rallying will never be the same for me
105Nick Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Roger Clark, 1968 Circuit of Ireland ... my bro had a video of escorts history and watching the awesome little twin cam with black bonnet hooning round the lanes looked awesome, as it was a virtually untouched production car and was really susccessful from the word go, he just had the escort mastered from the word go and of course who can forget the sound and skill of esso blue on full chat round the welsh stages, a proper driver in a proper osf
105Nick Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 That's a year before me, but Is till loved watching videos of the old escorts ragging it round the lanes/forests...

BudgieV8 Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Used to live near Hamsterley Forest & 'Killer Kielder' so yomping through the forests was a November treat when it was the 'proper' RAC. Memories: - the sound of Mk2 Escys on full chat with Wilson,Vatanen etc driving. - Mantas of Brookes (Andrews Heat For Hire) & J McRae (AC Delco) - Tony Pond in the Computervision Rover SD1 Vitesse - the 'crash, bang, chirp' of the UR Quattro Turbo's with Mouton & Mikkola - & (as mentioned above) the 'Scary Grp B's - RS200,6R4,UR Quattro shortwheelbase - C McRae & Richard Burns (RIP) in the Scoobies
BudgieV8 Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 ps - Just read the title again ('70's Rallying). ....I'll get me coat & go
atomic punk Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Was born just as the Mk2 Scort went out of production so no first hand memories But from the videos I've seen it has to be the 1977 Safari winning team, what an effort!!!!! Also not quite rallying but worth a mention has to be the likes of George Polley/Barry Lee/etc in the Hot Rod Anglias and Escorts Dammit I wish I was older
dannyboy Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 "Killer Keilder" I broke my first escort being car 0 for a mate. Whoops. broken distributer shaft, puncture and wallet dented.
