Von Loxlee Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 the round ones! am i gonna have to find a screen and fit it myself? or do places liek autoglass still stock capri screens? and will they properly rape me with the cost if they do?
antz Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 think ot only costs you a small amount on your insurance and you dont lose your no claims. auto glass cna still do it
Von Loxlee Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 dont think i have windscreen cover ill have to check. be good to know how much itll cost me without getting them involved because frankly i dont trust insurance companys for shit and would rather not get em involved
Chris M Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 new screen there fella.. sadley it will cost ya exxcess... most firms only do chip repair
Copey Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 man thats a pain in the arse!!! how did it happen?
Von Loxlee Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 man thats a pain in the arse!!! how did it happen? im not actually sure but i have done 500 motorway miles this weekend and had my sunvisor down so didnt see it till this morning! i presume at some point on the motorway musta got chinked by a stone or something? although looks more liek a stress crack cause i cant really see a stone chip which started the crack?!!
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I have been told that most if not all windscreen firms are now discontinuing chip repairs. You normally get windscreen cover if you're insured fully comp and the excess is normally either £50 or £75. Regarding your crack though, I had a screen on my old 2.0 Capri crack from top to bottom a few inches in from the o/s of the screen. I put a new screen in and a couple of months later, it had done the exact same thing It was a top tint too
Copey Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 gutted, sounds like it could just be the age of the screen then, i know i need to change mine, its goin all milky in the corners, summert to do with the laminate?
Von Loxlee Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 im tpft and with like the maximum excess to keep the intial price down! lol looks like im getting a great birthday present this year!
Copey Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 im tpft and with like the maximum excess to keep the intial price down! lol looks like im getting a great birthday present this year! shame you dont live closer, i have a mate who lives for a local auto screens place, sure he coulda helped you out
Von Loxlee Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 yeh shame cheers for the offer of it though! i take it the screens from autoglass are nos and have the correct tinting and that?
sparkycapri Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 i have still got several S/H screens left but most are toughened not laminated
richie_stix Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 got a crack from a chip in mine, had it sorted with the MOT... cost £135 for the screen, but this one aint milky like the last and still has the blue bit up top... bit expensive but what else ya guna do ey? and CRACK! i love it!
Von Loxlee Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 phoenix windscreens quoted me about 50 quid cheaper than anywhere else at 75 quid plus vat
cortina stu Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 I've just paid £30 quid for a new screen for my cortina, takes half hour to fit. I'd recommend leaving it as long as you can and keep an eye on ebay for someone local breaking a capri
