mk1super Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 How do i work out what size of fillters i need for 40Dcoe's Got one set and when i popped em on me car ran like poo I assume this is because they were to close to Trumpets Do i need to measure said Trumpets then get fillters to fit that size as i just thought the fillters were uneversal and if it said it would fit it should. Iam a car moron so please humour me
mk1super Posted July 18, 2008 Author Report Posted July 18, 2008 Space is an issue im afraid any one guestimate what would fit before i suck a stone in? I so need to tidy that engine bay up
Toby Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Looks sweet mate, but have to agree there's not loads of room there. You could probably get away with nothing on them (not ideal) but with the lack of space you will notice any filters I recon - Ideally you'll need it set up again.
glenbo Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 TRY FITTING MESH ACROSS THE TRUMPETS,WILL STOP STONES GETTING IN
Toby Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Canm you get a shorter manifold..... I am sure shorter ones are available but I liked the nice straight run on the fitted one, the shorter ones I've seen seem to be a bit more "swan neck" 2hp or a stone in your engine - your choice (I'd go for the 2 hp )
mk1super Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 would universal sock type fillters be any use? I even had a go at using some left over bike filters i had but they didnt fit
Admin Vista Posted July 19, 2008 Admin Report Posted July 19, 2008 Canm you get a shorter manifold..... I went through all of this a few years ago as I have the same space issues with mine, I tried socks but was never keen on them and they do absorb any petrol spits making them a fire risk. In the end and after discussing it with my engine builder I opted to run without. If you're only using it on the road i.e. not going rallying with it then the chances of ingesting a stone are next to nothing
escort new boy Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 you can but meshed filter covers that fit straight on
Toby Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 you can but meshed filter covers that fit straight on Vizard seems to slate all close fitting filters. Especially the "stretched tights" option.
mk1super Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 Any site i can visit? Harking back to what vista said i do use alot of farm tracks to get to and from the roads as im up in the sticks So i figure i need filters

mk1super Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 see i tried these slim line fillters and they made the car iddle rough as a dog then when driving it seemed to hesitate when you wellyed it
X-pack-Glyn Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Yep, they would have restricted airflow so much that what a carb cant suck in air it sucks in as fuel instead.

If the latter then I still wouldn't worry about it.
