fitting tyres at home

anybody managed to fit tyres at home? i know you need a compressor to be able to blow the tyres up (which ive got), ive just bought some bfgoodrich 15" (used) tyres that im fitting to the rear wheels. when i used to work in a garage sometimes rather than having to use the tyre machine to push the tyre on i could do it by hand. hopefully this will be one of those cases. if not, any tips? (please no, go to your local tyre shop )

I ve fitted quite a few at home using my compresser. I have just set it to full pressure and bounced the wheel and tyre til it seats and then let it inflate. If they have'nt seated I have taken the valve middle out so it fills faster. You can use furniture polish as a lubricant (do not do this on wheels without the seating groove). Glen (zetecmk2) was kind enough to demonstrate the flammable gas method, spray in some aerosol paint, ignite and it blows the tyre onto the rim (scared the crap out of me). The tyre was quite hot afterwards.

hah yeah ive seen the gas method a few times, they use it on trucks that go out in the middle of nowhere when they change tyres. and at work we took the valve out to get the air in faster too when the tyre wouldnt inflate, ive spent ages pulling on tyres and pushing the wheel with my boots trying to get crappy cheap tyres to get some sort of seal

Tea spoons are good for bike tyres.

Think thats whats wrong with my tyre a bad seal or a slow puncture

tried to fit them today, i can get one half of the tyre on by hand (one bead) but the other half i can only get on just over halfway. think i need to get a machine to do this
