rob-loves-osf Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 hi all im thinking of turboing my austin mini 1000cc mayfair the mileage is average 56k ish n wanting to turbo it what would be envolved? ive asked on mini forums but no answers so... anyone any ideas? rob
285Andy Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 is it really worth turbocharging a 1000cc engine when a 1275cc engine is even better as its got more cc's?? anyway, youd need to work out what compresion ratio the enigne would need, then have some pistons made to suit. you need the turbo exhaust manifold off a metro turbo (unless you have one made ££) and the inlet and carb off a metro turbo as that carb is sealed to run posative presure rather than vaccum. distributor i think? probably a cam change for more duration rather than high lift? again not 100% sure on that one and lastly the turbo. now being 1000cc youd need a smaller turbo than the metro turbo id imagine or its going to be laggy as fook and wont spool up till its too late lol! not only that but a shed load of other things ive missed out/cant remeber/dont know about persoanlly, id just keep a look out for a tatty old metro turbo to buy and you'll have everything you could ever need all in one shell
rob-loves-osf Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 ok cheers, it seems alot off work sooo i think i will pass and try to buy one already turboed lol or just think of a nother car to turbo haha. cheers for the infomation tho.

Admin Vista Posted August 16, 2008 Admin Report Posted August 16, 2008 ok cheers,it seems alot off work sooo i think i will pass and try to buy one already turboed lol or just think of a nother car to turbo haha. cheers for the infomation tho. They did an MG metro turbo and the lump from one of them should be a straight forward swap. Fit the entire metro turbo lump if you can get your hands on one. That'll give you a 1275 turbo with 94 Bhp (when new) edit: here you go, ain't eBay great? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/metro-turbo-engin ... 286.c0.m14
duncan scott Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 its an easy thing to do i did my last van in a day from 850 to 1275 metro turbo it was great id recomend it if you want it buy a bulkhead box from mini sport cut the box in about a inch from the master cylinder plate and weld in place change the fuel line to a larger bore ad a return line the same size dont bother with the brain throw it away it only worked the original boost light in the metro fit the fuel pump to the rear subframe the dizzy just plugs in to the original loom and the mini wires go to the coil buy an exhaust from minisport ar another suplier and get thrasing oh dont forget to fit disc brakes if you have drums. good luck.
Wessie Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 dont turbo a 1000cc, dont even bother with a turbo ! just built a nice meaty 1293/1310, big valve head, single weber - easy RELIABLE power for sensible money none of this woosh bang bollox
