mrmoo Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 i picked up this gearbox last week, and didnt have a proper look till tonight i thought all old fords used a cable operated clutch? a hydraulic clutch would be nice as im going to buy an AP racing clutch very soon has anyone done a hydraulic conversion? and what ford would this gbox be from? ive had the inspection covers off and it all looks in good nick bloody heavy! sorry danny, you wasnt being a pussy is there anywhere left that reconditions or uprates type5`s ??
Stu_B Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Can you take a pic of the arm inside the bellhousing for me? I've spent ages making a hydraulic arm that takes a pinto release bearing & couldn't get it to work (trying to run a pinto box on a pre x-flow) - this couud be a solution
V8ian Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 is the bellhousing for the Essex??, if so there was a Granada bellhousing that fitted the type 9, wasnt made for very long and fetches a preimum on Ebay, Other than that it could be a conversion, I did one for Essex to type 9 a little while ago for a mate,
john_3.0s Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 i think the 2.5 essex bellhousing is the one for the 5 speeder, but it wasnt hyd clutch. my guess is that is a corsair one
bortaf Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Tep 2.5 Mk1 granny/consul is the essex to Type 9 one but that's cable, corsair and Mk1/2 cortina had hydrolic clutches though but only the corsair came with a V engine (as standard)
mrmoo Posted August 19, 2008 Author Report Posted August 19, 2008 it looks like an essex bellhousing to me but the only one ive got to compare it to is in the engine bay a mate of mine also thought it could be a conversion too i just wondered if there was an essex/type5 motor running a hydraulic clutch would just be easier for me to find the correct master cylinder for it no probs stooby, ill take a pic of the release arm later on when i disappear to the garage
Stu_B Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 no probs stooby, ill take a pic of the release arm later on when i disappear to the garage
corsair dean Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 looks same as my gearbox on corsair v4!
mrmoo Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 so it is an essex bellhousing it is 23spline if i havent said that already what do i need to convert the stock capri cable pedal to hydraulic?
mrmoo Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 pics of inside bits ball joint that the arm pivots on held in place with clip
Stu_B Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Wow!! That's pretty much what I've been trying to make for a while now!! I've given up & bought a 2000e box! Would you have sold that arm & bearing just out of interest? x
mrmoo Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 im not sure, cuz im kinda thinking of using it as is and converting the pedal end just finished buyin nos parts, the system is now capable of 400lbs tq so a pretty dam hefty clutch is going to be needed
Stu_B Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 It's ok, I don't need it now. It's just frustrating to know theres an off the shelf part that I've been trying to make & get working for a while!
mrmoo Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 im just chuff`ed as i didnt even notice when i bought as it seems its a Corsair V4 bellhousing it shouldnt be too difficult to find also means i need to find a Corsair clutch master cylinder, and whatever else is required to fit it in the cappa
